Hamas in theory wouldn't like me, a pro-choice surgeon, an atheist married to a Muslim, descendent of askenazi and Omani arab grandparents.

In reality I've worked with a few Palestinians (one of my wife's colleagues is stuck in Gaza now as a volunteering transplant surgeon), and the lack of hatred in the hearts is inspiring and also sad. Almost like they've given up hope of any reconciliation and growth in their children's lifetime, and the anger is dissipated- well, till now.
I've worked with an Iraeli-arab, he was a junior, and the Jewish community in Southport really took him in and were very sympathetic to his life in Israel and his inability to see family in Gaza.

The son of a Hamas leaders son who has switched sides and now resides in the states was interviewed over the weekend. He was advocating an IDF ground offensive and saying as part of this they'd need to use gas because of the tunnels! It was very bizarre and worrying to hear and felt like a pretext.

Absolutely insane (if those estimates are from reliable sources.) Why dont they flee to the southern part of Gaza like Israel has repeatedly told/asked them to do? Civilian death toll was always going to be high when waging war against crazies like Hamas.
