Speaking of books, I don’t know if anyone here is Catholic but the first reading at last Sunday’s mass (the day after the attack) was from the Book of Isaiah 5:1 to 7.

Isaiah 40 is one of my favourites.

He’s really quite vile and is showing his true colours in this thread and the Ukraine thread.

From time to time I tell my students with absolute certainty that they don't like a food they enjoy. It's a circular argument designed to frustrate them past the point of thinking about the technical use of their English but rather expressing themselves emotionally and therefore authentically.

It's like the outrage farming that happens throughout the CA forum now. Provoke, separate yourself from the opinion expressed and repeat.

I don't understand why people see death, destruction and misery and think it's suitable material for a football forum.

For my part, I lament all parts of these conflicts, I see governments and their people as entirely different things and while I can hate a government I try not to equate suffering of an individual in terms of justified or unavoidable.

For my part, I lament all parts of these conflicts, I see governments and their people as entirely different things and while I can hate a government I try not to equate suffering of an individual in terms of justified or unavoidable.

Sad thing is these people are the same outside the football forum - I know/work with quite a sizeable amount of those sadly. In a way, glad I'm leaving my current job, but in another way - horrible to just listen to how it's what *X* deserve for some bizarre reason, be it Israelis, Palestinians, Ukrainians, minorities (PoC or LGBT+ etc.) or others of their own kind. Compassion feels like an uphill struggle at this point.

Same as you - I also (personally) acknowledge I don't know enough about either side and their conflicts here, just what's the "general knowledge", so to say, but horrific loss of life is awful, either side of the argument.

I'm not taking sides in this conflict, both are committing terrible deeds.

But Israeli, Hamas, Palestinian, Iranian... whoever - if you commit crimes like that, you need to be punished severely.
