Is Unsie's attitude right for the first team?

....the very good ones will still be very good, the very special ones will be quickly transitioned to the first team. I don’t think Unsworth’s tactics would’ve turned Rooney into a Southport player.
I don’t think even Mike Walker could have stopped Wayne from becoming the great player he was.

What I’ve said previously. In my opinion the best youth teams don’t care if they win.

They’re judged on implementation of style of play, and developing as an individual player.

I think the best players care if they win for the simple reason they hate being on the losing side.

For ages now the club has been terrible at handling youth players, how many kids developed in the academy only to let them go eventually for nothing? Sick to death of so many who linger about in the system for years then are eventually released quietly, it's a total waste of resources and time.

The vast majority of youth players are never able to make the step up but shouldn't mean the club should just not bother doing anything with them, no one wins in that situation. Train them up and then when they reach ages 17-19 shop them around to lower league clubs. The small minority whom you think really have a chance of stepping up into the first team, take extra care of them, they are the ones you can invest more in. Make sure the manager and his coaching staff are constantly aware of them.

It should run like a business. Every youngster who comes through the system, as long as they move on for any kind profit by the end of it then it should count as a successful project for the coaches who brought them along. With us it seems once it becomes clear a youth player isn't quite up to the PL level we just stop bothering completely and let their contracts run out. God knows how much money we've missed out on.

Is he making a team to win the 23's and forsaking the step up ? Are they all happy on their wages and the plaudits ?Being honest how many will step up ? I know that the percentage is always small but are we missing something .Yes it is good to breed a winning mentality ,I accept that .
How can you question someone’s attitude you’ve never met?

I think in an ideal world the youth teams would play in a style defined by the club and the first team would play the same way. This would be defined by the director of football. That way when the player moves from u23s to the first team, its the same formation and same style of play. This is the basic principle at Barcelona and and Ajax, but i dont think many clubs do this in the premier league, most of the players that make it from u23s to first team do it because they are so much better than the kids at that level or they go on loan in the championship and prove themselves
This is a pretty important point. It's a massive jump to the PL from the U23s. We shouldn't have good 20/21 year old players on the U23s. That's why we were winning. They should be on loan at a higher level. But they should still teach the same tactics IMO.

Was the worst manager I’ve ever seen at Everton.

Bit harsh as he had to deal with the chaos and crappiness left by Koeman.
BFS got a bit luckier taking over because he got Coleman and Baines back.
Unsy got well shafted and did the best with what he had.

Funny how this thread pops up today, i was just thinking about this earlier...

It's great that we have won 2 under 23s in recent years, winning can't be a bad habit to get into, can't say i have watched alot of these games in recent years but i did watch the derby game couple of years back when we were to receive the trophy at Goodison. They looked miles better technically.

That's all I've to say on the matter as it's too late and i really can't be arsed
