Is that kiss goodbye to Moyes then? Who would you want if so?

At the start of the season, knowing that Moyes' contract was running out, I had feelings that this would be his last season with us. However with how the season has gone, and with the transfer window just clsoing, and holding on to our best players, I think that Moyes will be looking forward to testing himself and the club in Europe next season, maybe even Champions League!, so I would think that a new contract will be signed. I think that there might need to be some reassurances from the board though relating to investment and transfer funds for Moyes to sign.

With the new television deal money coming in, and the lure of European football coming I would be surprised to see Moyes leaving the club at the end of the season.

Win cup in 95. Finish 6th in 96.

Finish 4th in 2005. Finish 11th in 2006.

You are of course aware than in 2005 when we finished 4th, we didn't qualify for the group stages of the champions league and therefore received no Champions League revenue. If we finish 4th this season, we automatically qualify for the group stages of the Champions League and will bring in significant revenue from it. As well as raising our profile as a club.

Finishing 4th in 2005 and finishing 4th in 2013 and what they mean to the business side of the football club are not even comparable.

How many times have we said that though, mate?

I really dont think Moyes is the type of feller to rock the boat and hand out ultimatums on cash. Not in his makeup I dont think. Imo, he'll make sure there's no better job elsewhere that suits him in terms of salary, investment and stability of the club, and if there is no such job he'll sign on again with Everton for another 3 years.

Agree, Moyes done a wonderful job here and why would he walk away now? he at one of the best clubs in the football in the country with a great fan base, more sky money, great wages, a chance of getting in Europe over the next couple of seasons, respected all over the country by pundits and fans from different clubs.
He would be mad to walk away.

I havnt been liking the sounds out of him of late re his long term future (post window).

The only job going really would be Chelsea and would be very surprised to see him go there.

This pretty much. But if anything decent came up he would be off for sure. He has been questioning why we didn't try to bring players in earlier in window already and that we have a small squad. He doesn't sound to happy, but then when does he ever.

I agree that Moyes is not the type to create waves and friction, and I think he has got the sort of working environment that he likes with us, so would he want to go elsewhere and not have as much control over team affairs? Would he really want to be somewhere and having to answer to a director of football, I can't see him agreeing to any of that and as such think it is not very likely for him to take a job in this country.

Going abroad could be an option, he has already said he would like to manage abroad, and Germany in particular, in the future, however I think with another crack at Europe on the way he will sign a new contract and carry on things here.

There's a lot of reasons Moyes will decide to stay and not too many persuasive ones for him to leave. He'll carry on treading water here for years to come. I think we all know there's nothing better out there for him personally, so i dont know where the jitters comes into over wondering about his contract extension. Us (the club ) and him are locked into a position.

no you dont you still have to qualify and we wont be seeded

I am more convinced than ever that Moyes is staying.

We've all seen Moyes body language and words when he is upset, and well... he isn't too upset after Thursday. Bit disappointed, yes. But not with the board or Kenwright (rightly or wrongly).

He has TOTAL control at Everton Football Club, a power which is intoxicating and allows him to be one of the best paid managers in the world AND do whatever the heck he likes. Yeah, he could get more money for players elsewhere and stand a better chance of winning stuff. But he has built and built and built at Everton, and we are so close. Some might be frustrated by that, maybe Moyes takes heart from that, and says, okay, we can't have what we want right now, but it's getting closer every season and the gap is getting smaller. Look at our form - only 3 defeats all season. That's incredible, better than anyone bar Man City, and equal to Man Utd. Turn some of our needless draws into wins and we are very close to serious title challenging form.

Erm, no i didn't. I'm not sure what point you are making? My point isn't about where any money we spend comes from, it's that we have recently been spending decent money on new 1st team players.

And my point was that the board have consistently failed to find funding for Moyes despite how badly the team needs it or how many 'club record' sponsorship deals are done, or despite vast increases in the TV deal. The money Moyes has spent, he has had to generate himself through player sales.

I think he'd probably view it as being as good as it gets, tbh. Great start to the season - beyond all expectations - but we're still out of the frame for the CL spots with others behind us capable of coming through. I dont think we have a chance of having as good a second half of the season given we have a small squad that will feel the physical and mental fatigue and a lot of our fixtures look pretty tough. He'll know also that something has to give (again) next summer and a big name will be sold to cover interest payments on debt and to fund whateber bargains he can bring through the door with a proportion of the money received.

I'm not so sure you know he doesn't seemed best pleased with the transfer fiasco judging by his comments in the Echo.

DAVID MOYES insists Everton FC are still top four contenders despite admitting his frustration at the failure to boost their ambitions via the January transfer window.

The Blues abandoned their £8.6m bid to land Dutch international Leroy Fer on Wednesday after his medical revealed knee problems, and then failed in an ambitious late pursuit of Sevilla’s Spain international striker Alvaro Negredo.

Speaking ahead of today’s clash with Aston Villa, Moyes expressed his regret that the club did not act sooner in the window instead of being left with a race against time on Thursday, but maintained he still has every faith in his current squad even if he desperately wanted to bolster it.

He said: “We are short. We said before the window that we’re short of what we want and we tried – but it didn’t happen and that’s the situation we have to deal with.

“I would say we are one of the contenders for the top four, for sure. It’s a question of keeping at what we’re doing.

“I don’t think we need to dwell on why the deal for Fer didn’t work – and we had a go for the boy from Spain but for different reasons it didn’t work out. It wasn’t for the want of trying. If there is any criticism then maybe we could have tried a little bit earlier.”

Moyes declined to elaborate on the reasons why Everton, who landed £3m Barnsley defender John Stones on the final day of January, were not active earlier in the month – and when asked if it was because funds were only made available late, he said: “I wouldn’t say that.

“But in the end we did, and we tried, we just didn’t quite get them.”

Asked whether the lack of big-name arrivals to boost Everton’s Champions League credentials would effect his decision to sign a new contract, the Scot said: “I wouldn’t discuss it, we’re only a day over it, but we’re concerned we didn’t add to what we got because I wanted to give the players something extra.”

The Toffees boss added that he made sure the Blues did not panic-buy as they attempted to find new signings while the clock ticked down.

“We didn’t go scatter gun at the end when we didn’t get Leroy Fer, but we tried to add some good players who would make a difference, and if that didn’t happen we looked at bringing in young players who could be ones for the future and add value which we did,” he said.

“The chairman and the chief executive were both on record as saying we didn’t have much money to spend so no one could be surprised, but at least we tried to give it a go

“We are disappointed obviously, Fer is a top player and it’s a shame it turned out like that, but we are still one of the contenders to be in the top half and in and around the top four.

“We just have to get our heads down and play on –we had a good January so it’s a case of keeping our heads down, keep plugging away and see if we can do that in February as well and try to cling on in there.

“There is disappointment, but it doesn’t alter now this team has been playing and what this team has been doing, and we have to ensure we keep doing that until the end of the season and see where it takes us.”

How are we 'out of the frame for the CL spots'? We are 5th, one point behind Spurs (and still to play them), 3 points ahead of 6th placed Arsenal, and 6 points ahead of 7th placed Liverpool.

We are still very much in the fight for the CL places.

It's also not guaranteed that the players form in the 2nd half of the season will be worse, that's just an assumption. Equally, we could just kick on.
