Is spending money always the answer?

 Agreed here mate.

Money is the key to break the top 4. We have a superb starting base, am not doubting that, but that's come from one thing: David Moyes.

He has built our team up to a 5th placed team but needs the money to move on. And how are you going to bring in quality players? Money.

Spot on. (y)

Ive said on here many times that money is not going to determine wheather we get top four or not, it helps but our current squad isnt a kick in the arse away form it, in fact last season we would have been fourth despite [Poor language removed] decisons, i never remember a season like it.

Examples- Spurs, Newcastle and lets face it the [Poor language removed] are only a Gerard or a Toress injury away from slipping out.

Examples for - Us, we were fourth with the lowest i ever remember us spending in a transfer window.

Money is a factor, but one of a multitude, its sad people who grew up in the Sky era just see ££=success (I include myself in that being young so thats not a swipe)!

Yes but we are going to need more than £30m to break the top 4. It's going to be £50 - £100m.

So realistically, 5th spot is again a viable goal, and one I would be delighted with.

The Knicks are only allowed to spend free agent money on certain players becasue of a salary cap. So that's why they suck. If they didn't have a cap Kobe Bryant and LeBron James would be making 40 million/year playing for them.

Well its a soft-cap and actually the knicks have the largest payroll in the Nba , but have been one of the worst teams the last few years. Lebron and Kobe could only play for them atm if someone would be dumb enough to swap players for them with the same contract value!

In the end in this day and age its always down to money be it the fee or wages you cant shy away from it its a fact of footballing life in this day and age

Those figures bill of around a 100 million are about, assuming of course you dont make any poor signings..look how much chelsea have wasted since the russian came along

The squad should be improved.

We don't need big money to improve some of our positions. Surely we won't get big name players...so what?

Step by step we've come a long way. Do I consider us consistent contenders for 4th spot? No, but we've done it.

Our main problem is that we haven't covered for some key positions early enough. That will make us spend some high money to get decent players in those positions, especially in the midfield.

But for example, we can improve the full backs without spending big. We can bring wingers without spending big. And we would add something to the squad and improve our overall ability.

Other way is to give youngster some competitive time. Bleed them into the squad and nurture them during their first steps.

I think that we should have 2 youngster from our ranks in the squad every 2 years. We must get an identity, and home grown give that.

No point in playing Football if your not going to progress.

Your calling me negative but there is massive negativity in that post.

Its not going to happen go through Evertons youfh teams of the past and very few make it to the first team ,not just here but at most clubs it might change if you are including the players bought from other clubs and placed in the reserves ect like Arsenal and the r/s are trying now but its still a gamble how often do we see a kid move to a club and dispite all the hype fail look at Jeffers foe one he was goingt o be good and there are countless others in 66 we won the youth cup but only John Hurst became a first team player and he was a forward in the youth team and a defender when he got his debut how many kids have we had over the last few years that are never heard of again remember John Hills played for Backpool youths against us and Joe Royle snapped him up,ended up going back to blackpool for free.(y)

Where? Please do tell me.

Settling for 5th. We got 5th last year. We want to push on?

What's the point in playing for 2nd best (5th best whatever) every year.

You want to test yourself and mix with the best and compete.

That's actually quite shocking to settle for 5th for a team like Everton who have always competed to be the best.

ONLY THE BEST IS GOOD ENOUGH.

It's not quite shocking whatsoever. Its about being realistic with what we have got. Your telling me that I am happy for second best - I am not, I remember when we were the best team in Europe. But they were different times, and we are just digging ourselves out of a big hole.

It takes time, it takes patience, we need solid foundations. What happened the season after we finished 4th? we finished 17th! 5th spot this season is not a disgrace, its an excellent performance in a league dominated by 4 clubs. Like it or not, that's the way it is at the moment. I have a feeling it will change, but I don't mind if it happens this season or next.

So what I have said is not negative, and coming from a guy who has been depressing half the English speaking world with negative posts - I think your being shocking.

I know about business, and what it takes to be a success at a business. It doesn't happen overnight. And realistically, Moyes is only been here for 5 years. It took Ferguson almost as long to win his first trophy at Man U. Perhaps a little more patience and understanding of a business model is required.

Or would you prefer our board to be like Newcastle? And spend lavishly on [Poor language removed]!

Good post the only way to improve is try to win if we start settling for a fifth or lower position we are showing a lack of ambition,Thats not to say we should expect fourth or higher but it is what we should aim for(y)
