As a man of my vintage, I used to love any cup finals, England games and midweek European matches. The world cup,Nations Cup tournaments were cherished. Motd the only way to watch league games . Football 7 days a week has diluted the pleasure to the extent that Everton/England aside, I go through long periods of not bothered. Listening to hours of waffle from pundits is mind blowingly boring.
The modern game is showbiz, flip of a coin to walk away or not.
Suppose I could have said yes or no!

Yeah, for me football was at its best as a viewing experience when we had Match of the Day (with Jimmy Hill featuring two games), The Big Match, Sportsnight, and Brian Moore back again for Midweek Sports Special. Thrown in On the Ball and Football Focus, Shoot!, Match, and Roy of the Rovers, and what more could a kid want other than Team Tabs, League Ladders, and Subbuteo.

Jumpers for goalposts.

I see a lot of older people also sharing this view mostly.

Do you hate football, or do you hate the fact you've seen us win things and we're now largely irrelevant and crap most the time?
I think the style of footy in general is crap not just us. Its too methodical. Taking a chance with the ball is often replaced with percentage football. Football is still alright, but im not arsed missing any matches.

Remember the stickers you swapped at school to fill up the albums, football coins at Shell garages?

Just too much of everything,no mythology about the game anymore .

I adore football - I spend many happy hours recording compilations of old classic archive matches from the 1960s to today. But there is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that 1992 was the tipping point: the year of the formation of the Premier League and, more importantly, Champions League - which utterly screwed competitive European football to this day. Throw in the unintended consequences of the Bosman ruling and add VAR, and you've got an elitist, concentrated game that really only works for about 10 clubs.

The standard of football - in general - has never been higher. Yet, the enjoyment it brings is, for me, lower than at any time in the past. Players are utterly divorced from fanbases, paid extortionate amounts of money to lose 3-0 on penalites. Poor millionaires. Subscriptions are outragous even if you can afford them. TV punditry is moronic. Commentators are unlistenable. Infantino is a fascist. I could go on.

I'll watch the World Cup - but mainly only from the last 16. I'll cherry pick the early stages and hope the fascism on display doesn't completely appal me to the extent I need to turn off.

Football as we know it is dead. VAR and "subjective decisions"... multi-club ownership... proposed games abroad.... Sports washing from oppressive governments...

Would you ever consider stopping watching?

Football isn't dead.
Elite football is.

Non League is absolutely brilliant. Better value, better food, ale on the terrace, growing crowds.

PL you'll never break the monopoly.
Non League every game is entertaining.

Sanitised for the masses. Most of the big games are boring. Xg football is the way now. No shooting from 30 yards because the Xg is to high, trying to get an opponent sent off early to maximise the win percentage, increased pkay acting. Players randomly going down off the ball to stop play and kill momentum.

Looking forward to the afcon semis tomorrow, id rather watch them than arsenal chelsea
