US ELINT assets would have detected and recorded the Iranian SA fire control radars as soon as they came on line and lit up the airliner.
They would also have switched on SIGINT at the same time capturing the frantic streams of communications when the Iranians discovered that they'd shot down a civilian airliner. I doubt however any of this information would be made public as it exposes the US intel capability.
The Americans are saying it was a mistake / not intentional and that can only come from intercepted Iranian comms.

Maybe they thought there was a load of spies onboard looking to get themselves out? NGOs are used for that sort of activity.

It’s gone into the realpolitik world. Iran shot it down, no one wants the events to go on so it will all go quiet. There were no Americans on the plane so they aren’t bothered, Canada obviously will want answers, but they won’t be forthcoming and we will just look the other way....it’s disgraceful, but it’s real life I’m afraid......

It’s just like the Malaysian Airlines flight 17. The Dutch families of the deceased are still looking for justice. I suspect now that more bereaved families will be left without answers or justice.

I dnt think so. I think it was intentional and they saw a plane predominantly packed out with foreign "cough" observers "cough" and seen it as a good chance to teach the western spying agencies a harsh lesson...with horrendous collatoral damage to innocent people on board.
That would be a decent theory to work on.
Amazes me how people have different rules for different countries/races/religions/sexes.
Saudi is one of the worst for human rights, is slaughtering millions in yemen, causing horrific famine and actually murdered and dismembered a Washington post journalist in a foreign embassy........ but they are ok as they spend billions on military equipment lining the pockets of poweeful American/UK defence contractors
China is one of the most opressing regimes that are holding and torturing millions of muslims, putting their children in 'orphanges' and indoctrinating them, but its ok because they provide cheap labour and billions in exported goods.
Then you have Russia/N.Korea etc who kill any dissenters or opposition.
It seems that your only a bad man/country if you are not providing America with money/oil/resources.
But its ok when Trump and his cronies are running for profit concentration camps, commiting all kinds of human rights abuses
