Interest in Everton’s finances and in general football

It seems to be the in thing to be an armchair accountant these days.

I’ve never seen the attraction to it. I honestly think some people get off more on making a profit via trading players than seeing a new signing.

I get that money is a big part of football, but don’t try to tell me that it’s interesting. It’s as dull a subject as can be.
Remember in the 80's when we signed a player, absolutely no one would even think about sell on value, it was all about the player playing football, it's quite sad nowadays.

I can see where you are coming from Groucho but sadly it's an essential element in the running of the club. Much too often do we find naughties going on from money laundering, tax evasion and downright cheating in club accounts. My concern is that clubs are not sufficiently punished when false accounting is discovered unless you have little or no clout, most Bury fans will agree.
Fans understandably get bored by mundane matters but if the game isn't honest God help us all.

It's a means to an end. If you want us to compete on the field we also need to compete with the resources we have. So signs we are or are not doing that are important even if they're boring day to day. I can't say I listen to the Esks podcast or whatever, but it definitely matters.

This is what I don’t get.

I don’t care as long as we’re not going under.

It has a correlation with how competitive we can be though, surely? Although with the amount of money already wasted you could argue the opposite. Folk have zero interest in Usmanov other than the $$$ he could bring.

This is very much where I’m coming from

Why have you created a thread on it then?
To fume.

It’s what we do

I wouldn't say its exciting, its as exciting as the Arsenal game a little while back,
And that’s fair enough.

@Groucho perhaps the only thing less interesting than the club accounts is hearing a bunch of 'uneducated-in-the-topic' bedwetters railing about the subject as if they had any experience of running a company with an annual revenue anything near Everton's.

Some of us have experience of examining accounts hence the need for scrutiny. Some of you only get riled when things are wrong, false accounting has been used at that point the club itself can go bust. You should be glad that those who can do take an interest.
