Injury crisis over soon?

Everyone else preparing for next season?

I mean don't get me wrong, the season is absolutely not over yet, with 3 competitions to play in and our side only going to get stronger as the year goes on, but I don't know....just a bit too annoyed atm to care about 09/10

As long as it's not in the Championship!

There is still plenty to play for yet this season, with a fully fit squad from Christmas onwards, who knows what we might do.

*Hopes we're still in touch with the top ten by Christmas.

Phil Says Stuff!

EVERTON captain Phil Neville has urged his depleted Goodison troops to hang on in, until the Blues can call in the cavalry to help salvage their season.

David Moyes’ squad has been savaged by injury, with 11 senior players ruled out of the most gruelling run of fixtures of the season.

The Blues have lost all three matches, after an encouraging seven-match unbeaten run prior to that.

Neville is one of those players who has been struck down by injury, but he said today: “The next couple of games are about survival and getting results.

“It is about hanging on in there, not getting too down then re-grouping on the international break.”

Neville sustained knee ligament damage at Fulham in September. But the injury has responded well to treatment and the versatile skipper has already pinpointed a date for his return.

“I feel as though I am letting the team down not being fit because we need bodies out there,” he said. “We need experience out there and I can't help.

“As captain of the team I want to be out there. I have got to be patient though. This is a crucial time in my rehabilitation when I have just got to be patient and let nature take its course.

“It is six weeks since I met the surgeon and he said I would have peaks and troughs and plateaus with the injury.

“The first three or four weeks I thought I would be back playing inside six weeks, but I have reached a plateau now and it is frustrating! I really want to be back training and helping the guys out.

“I am hoping to be back for the Man United game. But you never know.

“That would be eight weeks after the injury and the surgeon said it was a 12 week injury. It just depends on how it is healing and how it is progressing.

“I am back running now which is good so we'll take each day as it comes. In an ideal world I would love to be fit for the Man United game which is after the next international break.”

In other news......

EVERTON face an anxious wait to discover if Louis Saha has added to their lengthy injury list.

Saha failed to reappear for the second half of Tuesday’s Carling Cup defeat at Tottenham Hotspur after suffering a calf problem shortly before half-time.

The Frenchman has had the injury assessed by the Goodison medical staff but the duration of any time on the sidelines has yet to be determined.

And Everton are expected to discover more today when Saha undergoes further tests on the problem, with the striker a major doubt for Saturday’s visit of Aston Villa.

Saha’s absence would be another headache for Goodison manager David Moyes, who was without 10 players for the trip to White Hart Lane.

Long-term absentees Phil Jagielka, Phil Neville, Mikel Arteta, Victor Anichebe and James Vaughan have no chance of being available for the weekend while Leon Osman could be missing for up to another three weeks with a chipped bone in his foot.

Joseph Yobo (head), Steven Pienaar (knee), Leighton Baines (calf) and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov (thigh) are all being given every chance ahead of Saturday’s game, with Everton looking to halt a run of three successive defeats and score a first win in six.
And Everton head of physio Mick Rathbone is confident the injury concerns will have eased, if only slightly, by the weekend.

“Although we have lots of injuries at the moment all those players who are out are making good progress,” said Rathbone.

“I expect the vast majority of the injured lads to be back in the next few weeks.

“We are hoping to have one or two available for this weekend's match with Aston Villa at Goodison and we then hope to have some more fit for next weekend's trip to West Ham.”

Meanwhile, Torquay United are keen to take Everton youngster Karl Sheppard on trial.

The Coca-Cola League Two club have asked to have a look at Sheppard in training ahead of a possible loan move to Plainmoor.

Sheppard, an 18-year-old who was signed from Shelbourne in the summer of 2007, is a former Republic of Ireland under-16 and U17 international.

If the player who would make it on Satursday would be Pienaar, Billy and Baines, then I would be a happy man!

As far as I am concern we are lacking a left side player in Baines and some much needed creativity which would comes from Pienaar and Billy.

I know having Jagielka and Arteta available would be a great thing, but they are lacking match fitness even if they are available now it would be on the bench and for the last 20~30 mins of the match, but we need them on for 60~70 mins at least.

With all these injuries our squad is being seriously tested to its limits but its also a chance for the fringe players to make a name for themselves. The likes of Rodwell and Gosling should be relishing these games and giving their all to keep themselves in the manager's mind for when the big boys are back.

Whilst we are at such a low point we should revert to the dogs of war mentality and grind out results ala the Royle era. We have the players to do this at the moment. When our flair players are back then we can attempt to play the attractive stuff again.

If we try and play ball against Villa on Saturday they will rip us apart. Its time for strong men and strong hearts. COYB.
