Leighton Baines has revealed that the current Everton players all share David Moyes’ desire to improve the squad.
It has been just three weeks since the final game of the season and already the Blues have been linked with a number of stars.
Moyes’ men struggled in the closing stages of the season and many have put that down to the lack of numbers in the Everton squad.
But when asked whether the players in the squad feel underappreciated when there is so much talk about the need to improve the squad for next season, Baines explained: “The lads who have been here have done fantastic over the last couple of years, but the club has always got to look to progress and if there are players out there to be brought in then it is in the club’s interest to do that.
“We are a club that is looking to go forward and we’ve made steady progress now over the past couple of years so hopefully if there are players out there we can get them in and do even better.”
Everton failed to win against any of the top four sides in the campaign just gone, but Baines believes that they are not too far away from breaking into the top four.
He continued: “We did well against some of those teams last year and only lost by the odd goal, so we don’t feel that we are a million miles away from that at the moment.
“And if we can beat the teams around us and hopefully collect a few more points from the bigger clubs then we are going to have a good chance of getting in there."

If we want to get closer to the top4. We need a couple of big name players, and a few really good squad players. Just hope we have the money to do this.

Neville, Howard, Baines...the players aren't doing the manager's talking in public for him are they?

Chequebook out Kenwright.

Its like turkeys voteing for Christmas really, i had to laugh at Howard during the week, granted i am not Hoawrds biggest fan, but if i had 50 mill to spend i would be looking at a new keeper.

Do you not rate Howard, Neiler? Granted, he's no Neville Southall, but I can't for the life of me think who would make a better job of it, given we won't be competing with the likes of Chelsea, Real, Man U, Milan etc, for the world's best keeper.

Really Neiler? I'd say Howards position is probably the safest.

Well its all about opinions mate, ive said many times that i think hes an average keeper, not a bad one, but definitefly feel its a position where we could if we had enough funds find more quality, i know many will disagree with me, but i dont think hes in the same class as the top prem keepers or Big Nigel and Nev, i think his overall game is flawed.

I honestly think he has been the best GK in the league this season, when i think about it nobody else springs to mind.

He is one of the best keepers in the Prem and definatly one of the most underrated. We've kept the most clean sheets outside the "top four" and Howard is a big part of that.

He has his faults yes but so does every keeper. His strengths by far outweigh his weaknesses.

And the question is who would you realitically replace him with?

Kept 14 clean sheets last season, what more do you want ffs?

.
Less of the drama mate, i would like to think we are both on her long enough and have enough respect for each other without "[Poor language removed]" and referring to each other posts as "crap".(y)

Simple fact is i wasnt slateing Howard, i think hes average, not a bad keeper but an average one. Same way i dont think Hibbert is bad right back, or Neville a bad midfeider just an average one. I dont think he is better the Nigel Martyn or big Nev. So do i think our goalkeeping sithuation has improved since Nigel retired the answer is no? I thnk there are far better keeprs out there then Howard. I understand i am in the minority there but i am not going to change what i think, because most dont think the same way.

Personally i dont like his positional play and i think he gets caught out of position to often for a team of our calibre. I am not confident with him coming for crosses. I think he hesitates a little to often in comeing of his line and i dont think his communication with the back four is what it should be, i include shouting for the ball to be his in that category too. I also think his distribution and especially his goal kicks could be a lot better for a keeper his age. He is a great shot stopper though.

To be honest i never thought he was anything great at Utd despite the hype after his first season and he would still be there if it was felt he could play at the standard of a club we asipire to be like. Ferguson doesnt get rid of young players he thinks have the quality to be of service for Utd be it first team or not. Personally i also feel he could have done a lot better with the pens against Fiorentina.

I know you speak of fourteen clean sheets, and equaling Nevs record, it is a great acheivement, but you knew before i wrote this that i would put that down as an acheivement by the defensive unit rather then just Tim. To reality test it had he been at say Wigan, West Ham, Derby, Newcastle or Spurs i dont think he would have kept that many.

I am not sayng i am right (my jags is shtie at centre half thread in Jan will testify to that), its just an opinion, nor am i saying he is [Poor language removed], i am saying i feel the goal keeping position is one if we had enough cash to throw around is a position i wouldnt mind us strenghtening.

Can you suggest a realistic alternative Neiler? (y)

Its about opinion again mate, but i have always been very impressed with Frey and his game against us didnt do anything to change that opinion. I really like Arthar Boric at Celtic as well and he has a champions leauge pedigree agianst top teams, while has been sounded out by the likes of Milan. The Rangers keeper i think McGregor is a good keeper too. Kamini at espanyol and Cameroon is a good keeper could be great if he was at the right club. I also like Fabianski t aresnal and Guillermo Ochoa Magana the Mexican national keeper.

I wouldnt be disapointed to Jaskelinan in a free for a few year ike big Nige.
