IMPROVEMENT NEEDED

Anyway...back to Baines' point...."The lads who have been here have done fantastic over the last couple of years, but the club has always got to look to progress and if there are players out there to be brought in then it is in the club’s interest to do that."

sticking my head above the parapet, just for a sec, he is unusually susceptible to being caught out by shots above him from distance (Drogba at home season before last being a prime example)... don't get me wrong, I think he's a very good keeper, I just don't think he's at Nige's level, and certainly not Big Nev's.

Have to say I agree with Neiler. Howard's not a bad keeper but he does make me nervous.
Definitely could improve communication with his defenders, and sometimes it looks like someone's nailed his feet to the line.
On the plus side his reflexes are as good as anyone imo.

You're not Halewood Blue, Bob The Snatch, or MoyesBlueWhiteArmy in disguise are you?:lol::lol:

No he isnt but he is very right in what he says about Howard. Not the worst goalie but nowhere near a great goalie. He suffers like most modern goalies from a lack of positional sense, poor at crosses and lacking a command of his area. Its not an immediate problem but i would like to see it addressed sooner rather than later.
And using a derogatory term against 1 of the greatest everton strikers just confirms my view of you

What a stupid, stupid thing to be suggesting. Howard is as dependable as they come and has single handedly kept us in games. Fiorentina in the first leg for example every player on the pitch shat themselves except for Howard who pulled off wonder save after wonder save.

To be suggesting that we need a better keeper then Howard then giving a load of [Poor language removed] from the scottish league as ideal replacements is darn right insulting. Craig Gordon looked like a 10m keeper in the scottish league. In the premiership he isn't even fit to look at Howard's boots never mind lace them.

How old is Howard? definitely nowhere near prime for a goalkeeper. I'd wager that there is only 1 better shot stopper then Howard in the league. Maybe this poor communication and positioning is something that needs to be coached out of him. I definitely would not describe Howard as average and put him in the same boat as Hibbo and Neville.

MOYES OUT!!!
HE'S A DECENT MANAGER BUT HE'S [Poor language removed] AT MAKING THE HALF TIME ORANGES

As far as our goalies go Howard is better than most but West, big Nev and Martyn are a level above him,if Tim was as good as Nev he would still be at united thats not to say hes not a good keeper every player in every position have weak spots I think Tim's is long range shots, but having said that there are only a few in the premier who I rate higher and where I compare him to our goalies thats from Jimmy O'Neil on wards (1958)(y)

I don't agree with the communication issue raised here. If you look at how the back 4 know when he's coming out for a ball over the top, and when he's not you'll see that there's some good communication going on there. You certainly never see incidents like David James' last night on Kenny Jones. Also a sucessfull back 4 could not be so without good communication from the goalie, and our back 4 was very sucessfull last year.

He makes the odd mistake and his positional sense can be a bit off occasionaly but overall I rate him as a keeper very highly. However I rate Yakubu highly but i'd swap him for Torres. I rate Arteta but i'd swap him for Messi. I dont think you can really compare him to the best keepers in the country/world and say 'he's not as good as him' as theres onlt a few really amazing keepers out there. I think for 3 million he was a steal, is still a few years off his peak and will only get better.

His level of performance last season was very good overall... he had a bit of a dip mid season but came back from it and i think were pretty lucky to have him... especially after some of the crap we've had inbetween the sticks (Gerrard, Dickie Wright etc)!

So in all those arguments hes flawed but nobody wants to drop ten million for a replacement! Certainly signing a keeper isnt as exciting as the thought of signing the riquimes and Joaquans of this world.

I didnt suggest hes [Poor language removed] i said there are kepers out there of better quality and the consensus seems to agree, and also many of the arguments have pointed out that their a defo flawes in his game.

So the majority are happy having howard, as am i, my point is that i think there are a lot of better keepers then him. Chelsea had Cudinicini who was good but still signed Cech because hes better. My origianl point was that if we had unlimited funds the keeper position was one i wouldnt mind us strengthing.

Zero if you can give me a breakdown of each of the keepers games ill begin to beleive that you have consistently watched each play, instead of just assuming that there not of a better quality then howard.

He's 29 now so he ain't that young but he has got some years left in him in goalkeeping terms. I think he is a good keeper but there are better out there. I wouldn't replace him this year as our priority is holding mid. & right back and we'd have to spend at least 5m to get a better quality keeper in so maybe in a couple of years but by then hopefully Ruddy will be ready, he looked class on loan this year

Get rid of Howard??? I'll admit that his penalty saving wasn't very good last year however only Brad Friedel and David James were better keepers last year (I guess you could make the arguement for Kirkland too). Cech has dropped off, Reina can only save penalties, VanDerSar is over the hill and just gets bailed out by his defence.

There are probably only about 10-12 keepers in the world who are better keepers than Howard.
