I think the reason more and more players (and people in general) are coming out is precisely because it does not require as much bravery as previously and that in fact modern society in the west is quite accepting.

Find it curious that catholicism is specified here. You seem to be suggesting that catholics are raised more intolerantly than other Christian denominations.

Not personally bothered by it, but it does seem there are a few acceptable stereotypes allowed on here and some unacceptable ones.

Let's put it this way: the Church position on the matter hasn't wavered with the respect to the active practice of homosexuality. Protestant denominations, being fragmented, have been a little more all over the place on messaging. Some of them are considerably more intolerant, and some are less so.

Haven't. Point being, you're still looking at something like 20% of the population attending regularly, and a lot more that were primed to think a certain way via upbringing.
