2017/18 Idrissa Gueye

It's weird how we lose the midfield battle every week yet Gueye has his fan club. It was exactly the same for Barry.

Exactly, the hero worship of Barry was ridiculous. Finished 11th twice in a row with him ‘dictating’. It’s the same with a Gueye, we get ran through by average opposition yet people worship him. He offers very little. Makes recovery tackles because he’s in the wrong initial position, and offers nothing on the ball.

Mind you next to Schneiderfraud he probably looks brilliant.

We came 5th with Barry 'dictating' if your memory goes back that far.

Sounds to me like you don't like central midfielders who aren't skillful or score loads. Every team has more limited players in central midfield whose job is to win the ball back, put pressure on the opposition and then play 5-10 yard balls to teammates with more ability on the ball than them. There is always a need for them in the team. Last season from January onwards we had Gana, Schneiderlin and Davies who all did that very well. This season Schneiderlin has been poor, Gana has done well in spells but has suffered due to the poor form from his teammates and Davies has also struggled.

Barry is an excellent player and has been for all of his career, hence why he's played the most matches in the Premier League era, and has won an FA Cup and League Title with Manchester City. He was at the end of his career with us but was still consistently a class act for the vast majority of his 4 seasons with us, except for the 2nd Martinez season where he was poor for most of it. He also has far more ability on the ball than the other 3 players I mentioned above and has proven he can "dictate" games throughout his career.
