2017/18 Idrissa Gueye

Gana has gone from being an out and out ball winner to being asked to effectively be box to box. He was better before Schneiderlin got here, and I'm starting to wonder whether Schneiderlin is redundant in our team.

That 10 game winless streak prior to christmas last year should tell you all you need to know, pal

Schneiderlin is key to our team ticking.

Look how much he was missed against Chelsea - a game which Davies and Gueye played together in the centre - and in the second half vs Hajduk Split at home (again, TD and Gana together in CM on that occasion).

Davies and Gana don't work together as a partnership imo, as neither are at their best playing the role that Schneiderlin does which is receive the ball from the defence and get us up the pitch.

The issue is the players in front of Gana/MS have been bloody abysmal with their movement, bar Calvert-Lewin and Niasse.

There's nobody for Schneiderlin to switch the play to because we're so deep.

For me, Gana should drop to the bench in the next two games.

That has nothing to do with his quality, but more that I just don't think it's vital that he plays in these next two games when we have Davies who can get us forward more. It's horses for courses.

We then have Gana to bring on if needed.

Some big overreactions for how bad he was too. I think he was poor in the second half and gave away possession a fair bit. I watched the 20 minute highlights back on the OS and in the first half there were 3 occasions where he started off attacks with positive passes forward. There was one for Sigurdsson where he played it to Calvert-Lewin who laid it off to Sigurdsson who smashed it over. He played one through to Rooney, after initially making a block, where Rooney fell over about 8 yards out. And he hit another one in to Sigurdsson that he let go through his legs to I think Rooney, who then played it out wide for another attack. Gueye was significantly involved in the first half, but I think people are letting the second half cloud their judgement a bit.

Also, it doesn't help with the way Koeman keeps setting the team up. If Koeman starts making better decisions with his selections and formations, we will see players like Gueye excel like he did last season.

To be fair, it was Koeman who set up the team last season in which he thrived

You may well be right mate, but I don't think it's as easy as blaming the 4 in front of Gana/Morgan either.

Look at any top team in this league and they're attacking with at least 6 players, the front 4 and the wing backs, some even with 7, with one of the centre mids pushing on. We look horribly unbalanced as our full backs don't get forward/lack quality, and thus our attacks are easily snuffed out.

For two defensive minded minds though, it seems awfully easy for teams to pick the ball up in the space between them and our defence though.

another duplicate could make a centre half out of him along side Holgate and drop Williams!
give it a trail as he does deffo get in ganas way - we have now three other midfielders further up in triplicate!
