Papa Shango

He is in fantastic shape. His age doesn't worry me personally. Still a very important player for us.Time to move on from Gueye, we got lucky this season, his legs didn't entirely go...next season,? Who knows.

Remember Distan? Similar situation, one day great, the next game totally gone. Time is relentless. It catches us all eventually. With each year the odds on Gueye falling off that cliff become shorter. He is in fantastic shape. His age doesn't worry me personally. Still a very important player for us.
That's not what he does though really. He's important for a club that looks to stay out of the relegation zone offering coverage ahead of the back four.
He did that very well.
But for a club looking to get CMs on the ball and doing something with the ball and not just stripping the ball off opponents he's ill fitting.
If he stick around and gets another contract that's a fair idea of where the club thinks it should be.
I'm not saying he's 'elite' but there's very little chance of us picking up a better number 6 than Garner.
Distin also had to deal with a change in managerial style to be fair.Remember Distan? Similar situation, one day great, the next game totally gone. Time is relentless. It catches us all eventually. With each year the odds on Gueye falling off that cliff become shorter.

He is a box to box player, not a defensive mid. He has a great engine and gets everywhere on the pitch, always a couple of yards away from the ball regardless of where we have it offering a passing option. He even manages to get a shot or two off every game, not good shots granted, but shots nonetheless...
I could see the idea of getting rid due to his age, but not for what he does for the team. Still one of our better players who we would have to replace. If we can do that properly then great but even then I would want him as a squad option unless we are getting two players in for the role.
Anyone who thinks Gana 'sits' has never seen him play. No midfielder in the history of the PL has 'sat' less than him.His stats on interceptions and tackles completely obscure his forward game.
No matter what he's billed as and no matter that he makes occasional forays up the pitch, he is a midfielder that sits. Because that's what the stats say and that's what our own eyes tell us.
Agree to differ on this one, with Gueye's style of play, based on his all action hard running, there are worrying similarities with Distan, who's game was based on pace. Both players have assets that can go almost over night when FatherTime catches up.Distin also had to deal with a change in managerial style to be fair.
It can happen of course, but a one year deal is fine. Players generally keep themselves in much better shape these days too.

Use whatever adjective you want. He isn't box to box.
