I Hate Phil Neville

Personally, Neville is the worst Everton captain in my lifetime and my families living generation

I don't have as much of an objection to that

I'm just not confident he's the worst ever and nor do I think it's fair to claim so

It's funny that the idea of it has exercised me so much, because ultimately I don't think he was that much of a captain. I just can't in good conscience say he's the worst ever though

I find debating Phil Nev quite depressing. He had no personality, he wasn't a very good footballer and he's, well, just a bit boring really.

No I'm not. I'm simply challenging your level of research as you haven't been able to defend your opinion to me at a level of which I have decided is sufficent

My opinion is that there is no way to know until it is researched in more detail. It's not just something you say off the cuff. I'd first need to work out the criteria for measurement of a Capatains ability (or lack thereof) before I could accurately say what I thought. Off the top of my head, I'm not leaning towards him being the worst. I can say with more confidence that he wasn't one of the best. That's more of a no brainer because he never won anything, where as other captains did

You couldn't view it was absolute certainty. Kendall is definately in the running though, due to his success

You're claim that Neville was the worst captain ever seems to hang soley on the fact he did a crap interview on Sky Sports. That and your admitted dislike for him. Sorry, but if we're going to say someone is the worst Everton Captain of all time, I'm going to need a little bit more than that

It's called a reasoned argument mate. You haven't made one since this began. I'm not prepared to saddle Phil Neville with such a tag based purely on your over the top hatred of him

You really don't know what subjectivity and opinion is do you?

You cannot objectively say who is the worst captain, as different criteria have different weights to different people.

What you determine to be 'sufficient' is completely irrelevant. I'm only wrong in accordance to your own very set parameters, that's all.

You never presented it as opinion, you presented it as fact

I've asked him, I believe, four times now. No answer.

I honestly don't know. I'm just not happy to commit to Neville without researching it more

It's something where I'd have to sit down, look at the facts and have a real think

Again, if someone said that Neville was the worst since the 80's or worst since post-war, I wouldn't have as much an issue

But all time?

That's a heavy weight to drop on Phil Neville's shoulders, and I'm just not happy with agreeing with it as he did get to a Cup Final and he was a model pro and I just generally think he wasn't that bad

Can you see where I'm coming from here?

I've just got a feeling that one of the one season captains just has to be worse than him, either pre or post war. Neville was basically fine for 3-4 seasons. That puts him above a one season captain IMO, if only just.

If I had to say with the facts I already hold, he just about scrapes his way to being one of our weaker captains but not the worst

I believe he did his best. His best simply wasn't anywhere near being good enough in my opinion. Truly can't think of a worse one.

You see, I'd feel bad lumping this on a player I've never seen play, but we didn't win anything in the 1920/21 or 1921/22 seasons, barring the Liverpool Senior Cup, so I think worst ever Captain has to be one of those two, because at least Phil Neville got us to an FA Cup Final and also had some important clutch games for us during his tenure as captain.

So it's a tie between Dickie Downs and John McDonald

Even then though, I'd like to research it more, to make sure I wasn't doing them a disservice

You wear that blue shirt, you deserve that consideration

If Jags gets to lift the Europa League, then he's comfortably the best Captain we've had since either Watson or Ratcliffe, based purely on the trophy win

Even if we just finish 4th a couple of times under him, he's at least on the outside looking in on the top ranking Captains

As a player, he's been very good for us over the years

You can't really say

It's why I wouldn't say "Kone is our worst signing" because he's still here. I'd have to wait until he leaves to make such an assement

It was my understanding Spurs (playing in the champions league) put a bid in. We rejected it. He was then a consummate professional for the rest of the season and congratulated on that.

Other captains we've had have run at the first sign of trouble to another team.

hahahhahahahahahahahahah

no offence mate but I've heard from plenty of sources - possibly including the oracula if memory serves - the Saint Phil was so very crying and shaking that he was placated with a new deal
