Hope it's a really good day for everyone who attends or has a drink on him. I grew up on the Gwlady chanting his name and him giving us a wave back, I genuinely thought those days would last forever when I was 12 and we were winning Leagues and going to Cup Finals regularly. Them times are a part of me I'll never forget and Howard was a part of that and I'm grateful to have had such experiences.

Just thinking about everyone attending tomorrow. Essentially a funeral is a private event and thoughts must be with those nearest to Howard, his family and closest friends. Their loss is greater than anyone associated with Everton.

Having said that, his impact on the life of so many Evertonians through the 80's is so great that their, our, loss is also so great.

We know our history and without Howard it would be so much less significant than it is, his contribution as a winner is no less significant than his contribution as a person, friend and family member to those close to him.

Tomorrow is a combination of a mourning of his passing and a celebration of his life. In a sense it is Everton personified, great, wonderful and magnificent, yet perhaps not totally recognised nor fulfilled.

Regardless, good night and God bless Howard.

Wonderful words as usual Esk.

This is a short poem by Joyce Grenfell, which when I read I could almost see Howard saying......

If I should go before the rest of you
Break not a flower nor inscribe a stone
Nor when I'm gone speak in a Sunday voice
But be the usual selves that I have known
Weep if you must
Parting is hell
But life goes on
So sing as well.

Goodnight Howard..........

Joyce Grenfell was superb at doing monologues.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
