Well I can only speak for the Danish market where EFC is almost non-existant. Focus is on Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Yoo - even Arsenal is not really visible, though Bendter coming into their team has helped. It of course helps when there is a Dane in the team, but during Gravesen's last stint nothing was reported since he was not playing. Only if we sign Christian Poulsen of Seville would I imagine that the Danish press could be bothered to look beyond the other three.

So; Poor

On a side note there are [Poor language removed] loads of Red S***e in this country coming back from the 80s and Jan Molby. Even though we where successful in the 80s as well it did'nt build any major fan base in Denmark.

Is there much Everton themselves can do about this though? This is mostly the media's work, so whoever they favour will be reported.

I cant see what we can do about gaining attention away from home other than signing players with the intention of media attention in their home countries.

As for marketing the club and merchandise to current supporters then I'd say we do a fairly average to poor job. I get the odd flier in the mail for an everton credit card or season ticket offer but thats about it. What I would like to see is more quality merchandise other than the usual tacky stuff.

In many respects, we're fighting a tough battle abroad because the so called big 3 and Liverpool (sic) are ahead in virtue of how the media portrays them. We seem to be interested in the far East, which is good with over a billion potential supporters. India, as well, has a population of over a billion now.

Isn't Bruce a marketing guy? Maybe he can drop a few hints on how things can be improved!

Even in Thailand, where "Chang" is a sponsor on Everton shirts, a few of football watchers know well about us. There were many attempt to establish "Everton" brand in Thailand such like Ray Hall flied to Bangkok for teaching the football skills for youth, or built up the academic football ground with a collaborative operation between Chang and Everton. But it didn't widespread in more commercial way. SInce, the influence of BIg 3 and RS are still more potential in Asian countries.

We did set up two Evertonian websites in Thailand, we wait and just hope that there will be more youngster interest in our team and join the Blue supporters. Now we have approximately 1000 Thai supporters, and some of them still hide in shadow.

I hope that if Everton would like to widely spread the brand in Asian region, first target is Thailand, gaining just 1.00% of football watchers in Thailand that mean you could get approximately 2000 more supporters. The club has to work more harder than present.

All the best, Evertonian fellas

What a sad state of affairs the greedy premiership is now in that we are even talking about how our club should be competing for fans across the world to squeeze ever more money out of them.

People say that football has become a business, well it hasnt fully yet, but when when we become customers rather than supporters, what happens to football then? Customers only want to buy the best value for money, therefore its as we're seeing now, fans (or customers) from across the globe want a better return on their purchase (or support) so will only choose clubs likely who are right at the top.

what marketing's that then?

some scallys with a 'fat spanish waiter' banner at a recent international cricket match has done more to raise the profile than any 'in-house' attempt as far as i can see!

can only speak for the south korean market. i had to put very poor as you cant buy everton shirts here even though we have been flirting with the champions league for a while now.

and the koreans are footy crazy. every korean has 'a team'. the top four must make a killing here from their branded goods. we must ditch umbro asap and get in with either nike or adidas to get our products in the store.

for a while i had a tiger for my avatar as that is how everton are seen by the match day commentators on mbc espn. we are the 'tiger team' because of our spirit and strength. but aside from the korean commentary the club itself does zero to promote itself in the korean market. this is a massive mistake. next time you play fifa or pro look out and see if you can find the 'k league'. even though it's a crap league it is on every edition up there with the european leagues because of the huge market here for the game.

i don't want everton to 'sell out'.... but it would be nice to go to seoul and buy our latest shirt rather than get it posted from england. trust me.. every adidas shop you are fighting through the liverpool and chelsea crap before you can get to some decent clothing. they even stock the 'candy' kit liverpool had in the 80's. go figure.

Haven't seen an Everton shirt in Spain yet.
Apart from my own that is, and on the back of the occaisional tourist with good taste.

So How would I rate our maketing? I wouldn't.

Seen one everton shirt at Rebel sport in Sydney.

First and only one.

They always have

Man U
Chelsea
Arsenal
[Poor language removed]
Villa
City
Bolton

even Leeds.

Everton shirts and Fans all over Ireland but you expect that but surprisingly I am seeing lots of young lads wearing Everton Jerseys and seeing more and more over the last 2 years cause of our 5th finish. So a medium for me.

I've not seen any tangible Everton merchandise in the northern part of Texas, US. Arsenal and ManU are the most prevailant from the EPL. Occassional Chelsea and [Poor language removed].

As for brand awareness. Very little. Mainly via Fox Soccer Channel but the Sky4 have the lion's share of coverage and broadcasts. I would say Everton is decidedly second-tier in awareness with Spuds being in the same boat.

I've not seen any shops in Scotland stocking the Everton shirt, not even JJB. You can, obviously, get the usual top four teams. But it did make my day when I was driving through Stirling and passed a guy wearing our home top. I put my thumb up to him but he didn't see me.

On a related issue, I bumped into a load of Neds down at Loch Chon wearing Chelsea tracksuit tops. I asked if they were fans, and it turned out that they didn't give a flying fcuk about Chelsea, the tops were merely fashion statements!!
