How much trouble are we actually in?

We really lost the chance to challenge for the top four during early season. How much of this was down to the fact that deals were left so late?

Theres enough players to field two teams there.

Im not worried. I trust in Moyesy.
I get it to 19 players, so not quite enough to field two teams. even with the addition of Peterlin & the german kid we need to fill up with even more youngsters to get two teams.

Phil McNulty summerises Everton's transfers -

BBC - BBC Sport: Phil McNulty: Who will be market movers?

Everton finished "best of the rest" in fifth for the second successive season, and supplemented that with a place in the FA Cup final, losing to Chelsea.

The test for manager David Moyes is to prove that Everton are not now banging their head on a glass ceiling and that fifth is not the new first at Goodison Park. And he will once again have to try without the aid of a huge transfer fund.

The talk is of around £12m plus any raked in from sales - an amount that is likely to double and more besides if Lescott does make the move to Manchester City, although striker Jo, on loan at Everton last season, may return in any potential package.

Moyes' policy will be to pursue young, and preferably British talent, which means he may rival Villa for Sheffield United's Naughton and follow up a long-standing interest in Cardiff City's Joe Ledley.

It does not, however, rule out a move to bring Michael Owen to Goodison Park and the hardy perennials Joao Moutinho from Sporting Lisbon and Rennes' midfield man Stephane Mbia have been linked once more.

Everton need to improve down their right flank and whispers on Merseyside continue to link Moyes with Jermaine Pennant now his unfulfilling spell at Liverpool has drawn to a close. Intriguing speculation, a move that would be brave for both manager and player.

Moyes will have Yakubu, Mikel Arteta and Phil Jagielka back at various intervals next season, but chairman Bill Kenwright must resist the urge to peddle the line that "they will be like three new signings." Only real signings can keep Everton where they currently stand, let alone have any chance of improvement.

None of the young lads who actually made the bench at times this season over Lars, Valente, Castillo and AVDM are in that line up.

Coleman, Baxter, McCarten. Plus who ever we bring in i gauerntee will be better then what we lost, the squad will be its strongest it ever has been under Moyes.

In actual fact im delighted the above players are gone, they offered very little, did they even muster 20 games between the four of them, didnt think so.

Still not worried.

Oh, I won't miss VdM, Castillo or Valente. Of those three only Valente has made his stay here worth anything for the club, sadly for him, the starting 11 grow away from him in the last year.

Jacobsen on the other hand played well when he got the chance, unfortunately he got injured in an international game before the season started. Of those we have let go, he is the one I think we made a mistake on. We did offer him a oneyear contract so Moyes clearly wanted him to stay at least for another season, so why not a 2? But... what's done is done. I just hope Moyes have something up his sleave otherwise I think this was a mistake.

Aye mate Jaco looked he was a steady player, he was nothing special, will we really miss a player who played 5 games for us. Frankly think Hibbert and Neville are better.

Poor old Tony the tiger had the misfortune of having a mare, in our biggest and last game of the season. Doesnt make him a bad player, he did well for us last season IMO. You have to judge players over the whole season.

Neville is a quality full back to and i think with him there he balances out the team, as he can get as forward as Baines which gives us width on both flanks.

Not to mention Seamus Coleman who i see on the OS has been graduated to the first team squad.

Thats three right backs, not to mention Yobo, Jags and Gos can do a job there.

I wont be looseing any sleep of Jacobson.

I remember when we signed him last season people were saying we didnt need any right backs!

Ghite, we need squad players, which are available at better terms than the above. But our real need is a couple of first teamers, ones that will make that difference. I've a feeling Moyes is similarly minded. WATCH THE SPACE, as I'm convinced that Moyes will bring in a couple of names that will get us just a bit excited.

Obviously we'll lose Joleon ...

Need to start moving for players now. Pre-season is just around the corner and we're still sitting on our hands.
