You said Everton's position in the PL trumps a cup win. But you wont put it to a popular vote....I wonder why?

Not sure I did, tbh. And I don't need popular opinion to prove my point. It doesn't make my point any more or less valid.

What I said was the league should be given priority, and words to the effect of a CL place trumping a LC win. I never mentioned anything about binning the LC neither; although you seem to have convinced yourself I have, somehow.

I did however, dismiss the LC's credentials (Financial & prestige-wise) as opposed to the PL. (And the FAC for that matter, if you really want to know)

And, I didn't say 7th then 5th....I didn't move the goalposts to suit. I don't need to. I'm quite secure in my conviction.

Nor did I mention anything about this poll you're obsessed with. If you want a poll, knock yerself out. But at least do me the courtesy of asking the question I posed, rather than the one you wanted to try to impose.

But Davek told all his followers we don't want EL, but we need the cash but not the games but we want CL but we don't care about league position but the winning the EL gets you CL. I'm not sure what the spin is this week.
I just think we should be aiming to compete in Europe as often as possible. That's what the top players want. Some will argue it's not worth it to compete in EL but you don't go from 8th place finishers to CL regulars in one step. Look at how well being in EL has worked out for sevilla.

Normally I'd say I'd prefer a trophy over the league position however I can understand why someone would like to finish 4th at the expense of a trophy if it meant keeping Lukaku and Stones, then build get on that to get to bigger things than the League Cup.

But it's hypothetical really. I want 4th and a cup.

In terms of the 2nd leg, it's not for 5 games. I wouldn't give it a second thought until before the Swansea game. At that point let's see who is fit or not.

Obviously we play a weakened side home this weekend. Opposition is weak & we're coming off the back of a busy Christmas period. Again, nothing specifically related to League Cup, other than we just played another midweek game against a strong side.

We want CL but are in no position to get it; anything short of that is pony; a cup win is the prize for us; if we get it we're in the EL - more's the pity...but it's a small price to pay for Everton winning a trophy after two decades without one.

You see, all is consistent when you bother to read.

It should be put to a vote?

I'm making any such vote more favourable to you!

If you think what you've said is correct (that a cup win and 11th place in the PL is unacceptable) then you should easily get a poll to reflect your view if you offer people a choice between 5th place and a LC trophy....shouldn't you?

As I said, over to you.....

I would take 17th and a cup. The problem is that if we fail even at the final hurdle then the first part of the equation becomes unacceptable. If he wins a cup though he can do what he wants.

17th is an outrage with this first team we have. Not that it'll ever happen.

this season we could easily have achieved CL if we had anything resembling form. It's a shame we've reduced our goals to match the Swanseas of this world.
I'm all for winning trophies but will it be at the cost of long term goals and a better class of player? Players talk about playing for teams in the CL, they're not arsed who won the cup.

ALL the focus.
I like shiny things and the participation ribbon we get from the league doesnt satisfy me.

So win both cups and dont worry about our players leaving. Once that cup bonus cash deposit hits their bank account they will forget all those other teams. Am I right..?
