How feasible will American styled playoffs be in European leagues?

I would prefer relegation/promotion, so that most teams will be fighting for something until the end. Playoffs can be exciting, particularly post-season NHL and MLB, but there is no need for playoffs in the PL.

Many leagues in Europe, have adopted the American playoff styled nature in their top flight leagues, examples being the Belgian, Ukrianian, Greek and many smaller nations. The Belgian league, can be cited, as a prime example of a copy of the American system.

It doesn't exist an European football league that decides their champion by using playoff knock out system. They all have top six (eight in serbia and poland) playing few more rounds with points halved or not, but there is no knockouts in European leagues for determining a champion.

American playoffs are exclusivelly knockouts (NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, NBA).

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGLE

I’m American.

This is an absolutely horrible idea.

End thread.
I quite like American football.

But, for Pete's sake, I would give all the wealth of the Premier League to stop non-UK (and non-Irish) supporters and owners having any influence on English football.

Cheerleaders, TalkSport, Sky fixture changes, 39th games, global vision, mafia owners, Friday night football with no public transport, right-wing American capitalists and Arab dictators.

Just do one out of our league and let us play football (without global tippy-tappy midget mercenaries, if possible).

2011 New York Giants (9-7, 56%) became NFL Champions because they have playoffs.

2010 San Francisco Giants won the MLB World series champions of the world, world championship even thought they lost 70 games of 162.

1994-1995 Houston Rockets. Regular season record: 47-35 (10th best in the league) Won the Championship

All the teams that had the best season records got jack in these years. It's a terrible system. By all means have your knockout tournament but it should be secondary to a most points/winning record trophy.

Part of the reasoning for American leagues having playoffs is not everyone plays the same schedule. In football everyone plays each other home and away so their is no need to balance this

My issue with European leagues is that most of the league is virtually finished by October and the winners are pretty much declared. If we have a repeat of this season in the next few seasons, I can see the play-offs being suggested to rectify the issue.

Belgian league.

So this year you have City, United and the RS not really caring from Christmas (because they are pretty sure of making 8 team play-offs anyway so they don't have to play first team and can rest them for Champions League).

Oh, OK, I get where you are coming from now...

Even in MLS the schedule is not balanced so a playoff is understandable.... but the team that finishes with the most points gets a trophy (the Supporters’ Shield) and they go into the North American version of the Champions League along with the MLS Cup winner. So both achievements are rewarded.

Once upon a time baseball had a balanced schedule and the World Series was the only playoffs and was used because the leagues were completely separate. Now baseball has a crazy amount of playoffs because of money
