How far off are we from replicating Man City 2010/11 (top 4 finish)

If lukaku had stayed i would have fancied our chances... need another striker and someone like icardi etc... but attracting them is a problem... dzeko would be my choice as I think we could throw money at him and he would come... he's 31 so coming to the end of his career and a big 3 year contract would convince him IMO... not good handing out these contracts but I feel that's what he have to do to get someone in .... if he fires us to CL and then when he's 33 is still on big Money but isn't good enough... that's just something we will have to bare.

We are talking about the same Everton here regardless of players brought in.... Saw today we were 125/1 for the title... great price for Top 3! what price relegation - the Everton way, really.

We are in the process of assembling a pretty impressive squad. If we aren't ready to break the glass ceiling, we're getting close. We're knocking on the door; add a prolific centre forward, an attacking midfielder and a competent left footed CB, and we'll kick it down!

I think Kompany, Toure and Tevez may have been miles better than anyone we have at the moment. They signed Robinho in 2008 so they've been splashing the cash for ten years now and although they've wasted a hell of a lot of it with signing overpriced players We have a lot of catching up to do. Can we get top 4 this season ? why not anything could happen but I'm not expecting it .

they had less competition i think, but the competition they had was also better. None of the top teams are as good now as they were then imo.
Agree with this, they were just trying to break into a 4 not 6 like we are. Overall standard of the league has dropped since then though.

You can't compare anyone at Everton to the likes of Tevez, Toure, Silva and Kompany.

Probably have to go as far back as Kanchelskis to name a player who would fit that bracket.

I'd say Lukaku was in that bracket, he certainly has a goalscoring record in the Prem comparable to tevez but now he's gone anyway.

Couple of seasons at the very least

There's far more competition now than what City faced. Literally all of the top 6 have a viable shot of finishing 4th or higher, it's going to take a while to break into that club

We need some consistently good seasons and to get the stadium sorted, then we'll have the base to build for a top 4 finish

It's a marathon, not a sprint
