How far are we from Champions League?

Yeah im hoping Williams improves with another top defender alongside him. Otherwise we would need to sign 2 top centre backs and have Williams and Holgate as rotation/cover which isnt a bad thing as long as we bring in top quality.

If were playing 4-3-2-1 formation i still think we lack another in the '3'. Gana/Schneiderlin/Davies are great but if we lose one of them then the only options are McCarthy and Barry. Personally id like someone to push Davies onto the bench.

Who is our Toure/Keane/Gerrard/Vieira/Essien type powerhouse who can really drive the team in the centre?

If we had someone like that alongside Schneiderlin and Gana then we would have a tremendous midfield with Davies and McCarthy to come in also...Barry phased out for Walsh perhaps.

In the 2 positions ahead of the centre and 'feeding' Lukaku we will have Barkley cemented in one position and, I agree we need another ball player in there. He would not be cheap and must have the X-Factor.

I dont think we can scrimp on the CB/CM/AM positions...three players there would really transform us. The central and attacking midfield areas would be complete but we would still lack in defence and up front.

If we go for top players, thats going to mean anywhere between £60-100mil just for those 3 positions.

I think at that point though we will be very close.

Also mate, what we need as much as anything is someone who can actually take set pieces - we are woeful at them (not helped by being overall a small team either without any really dominant in the air player (centre back please), think we hold a record this season as the only team to have not scored any shot from outside the box as well which if that is true (read it some place) is actually pretty damning - think Barkleys free kick that went in accidentally first game is our only goal from outside the box (none from open play)

I reckon 4 players to add to the first 11 to enable us to give anyone a game.

Then at least 4 to add to the squad. This is where it becomes tricky for us getting top players with no guarantee of games.

We are 8 points away with big games coming up, win our next 3 and we be within 2 points with 7 to play, it's very much on this season.

Being realistic though it isn't likely at all. In big away games in the past 25-30 years Everton have very rarely delivered. We have won once at Old Trafford since 1992 and have not won at Anfield since 1999.

To get a win at one of those grounds would be a huge achievement this season, but to get 2 in the space of a few days would be something we haven't achieved since the mid 80's when we went on to win the league. We won 1-0 at Anfield on 20th October and Man United at OT in the League Cup on the 30th in 84-85.

This team does not have the belief or bottle to achieve something like that even though we have made progress in recent months.

He we go again, FIFA must have released a new game for Z to play! Koeman himself said a few weeks ago with a good summer transfer window he would expect to be competing with and challenging the top 4, that's good enough for me! Over to you Mr Moshiri!

We are miles away from the champions league and will be for some time.
If you look at this season with a positive spin, then we are getting rid of a lot of the squad and hopefully plan to replace them in the summer to bring the quality level of the squad up. This means another year of rebuilding has to take place for the players to gel and to create the 'team' throughout the season. So realistically unless we over achieve or manage to find 5-6 top class bargains then 2 years before we really mount a challenge to the teams at the top.

Sadly signing some players does not equate to instant success or instant results, it takes time, chemistry, bonding, learning to win together that will take time, especially with several players all at once.

I disagree that we are 'miles away'. The media tend to overhype certain teams but to me there are only 2 consistently top teams in the league at the moment. The first is Chelsea, but they have a lot of the same players as last season that disgracefully allowed themselves to finish in 10th position in the league. The other is Spurs who have been pretty consistent for 2 or 3 seasons now.

Man City are fragile and are a side that we have beaten 5-1 over the 2 matches we played them this season. The RS have their weaknesses and we can work towards leapfrogging them next season, Arsenal are similar to City in that they are mentally weak, and for me Man United aren't even at the level of the other 5. Man United seem to be one of these 'Flat Track Bullies'. How many top teams have they played and beaten recently? De Gea aside, I don't think they are any better than us and in fact, I would say we have a better squad than them.

This season we should finish seventh. The poor run before Christmas ruled out anything higher than
Were it not for that very poor run of five or six games we would be right in the mix for a top four finish .
Next season we may have to play a European competition as well, but we could use squad players and youngsters for these games.

Next season is all about where we finish in the league.

A lot depends on other teams.

Utd will carry on jizzing money until they win the league.

Chelsea have a great manager and cracking players. They're not going anywhere in a hurry.

City are City. They'll keep on spending money on class players and gash defenders. They'll be a top 4 mainstay for the foreseeable.

Spurs seem to get better and better, but you never know, they could lose their manager and have a bit of a slump.

Arsenal look like they're on their way down with Wenger stinking the place out.

The RS are no big shakes in my opinion, they need to spend a hell of a lot of money on their squad.

So realistically, there's one CL place up for grabs between us, The RS, Arsenal and Spurs, but only if we sign some quality players and push on.

Somehow convince Rom that we WILL be buying serious quality early in the summer, have a good crack at the Europa next season and target top 4 as well. No more chinese whispers, show some intent. Couple this with new stadium plans and we'd be on a roll.
It shouldn't be underestimated how much damage Martinez did to our street cred as regards attracting higher calibre players. Losing Lukaku 12 months after selling Stones sends out all the wrong signals on the pitch, regardless of whether it's good business.

We have Enner Valencia as our second striker. No left back cover. Nobody who can really play number 10.
Better squad than United? No chance.

This pretty much.

A few key first eleven signings of schneiderlin Standard etc will boost us no doubt.

But we talk of buying another striker, who is going to sit and wait for s chance behind Rom? We need to get a good one in and let him play in Europe for us or something
