How do you solve a problem like Arteta

You can blame Howard if you want but where were the defenders for the clearance to Moron-ass and when the miss hit shot came in how come no one else reacted?

This is spot on, and unfortunately brings us full circle in this threrad back to Arteta: for their first goal the ball fell to Meireles on the edge of the box...nearest man to him? Arteta. He just ambles sideways toward Meireles hoping the outrushing Baines would get a block in. Slothlike.

He's just not switched on at the moment for the whole 90 minutes. And I'd swerve the suggestion he goes LM. He'd slow our movement on that flank dramatically. .

I thought he did a lot better today, not the level I'd expect of him, but he's improving. Because of this I think it'd be a bad idea to drop him, his confidence is coming back slowly and same with his all round play. He's still lacking heart and fight unfortunately. I think within a few games he'll be nearing his best again... I HOPE!

This was my take on it as well. I thought he was a little better today, just still a far cry from what he should be in our team. Wake up Mikel! The fact that we need threads like this makes me sad (but it is legit right now).

Agree completely with your first para., not so much with your second. He's the only player we have that could link up intelligently with Baines right now. Ossie and Anichebe both tried to feed Baines on the overlap today but it didn't come off. Bilyaletdinov hasn't ever shown himself particularly capable on the left either (I know there's the case of 'giving him a chance' but, to be frank, he's been here for 18 months and hasn't done enough to warrant a starting place. He got a big opportunity against S****horpe last week and not only lacked quality (rustiness can be forgiven) but didn't even work very hard), while we have a couple of guys that could slot in alongside Fellaini if Arteta moved to the left. I'm not saying this would be a brilliant solution, but it could work, depending on the opposition.

I like the idea of bringing Rodwell back into the fold. Arteta was hopeless on the couple of occasions he was wide right this season, maybe switching him to the other side could pay dividends. I'd far sooner give someone like Gueye their chance though, tbh.

Can't wait for that ....."who's that playing wide left?"

"....he's fekn gay he is"

I can only guess that Gueye hasn't shown enough in training yet. From the little I've seen of him (mostly in pre-season to be honest) he's quite a neat and tidy footballer and not at all the player I expected. Time will tell I guess.

Remember Arteta being electric on the left a few years ago? Then he went terribly stale until we moved him to the middle. He's obviously a better centre mid but it seems we're going to have an issue on the left for a while now. Worth a shot.

I think people have been harsh on Arteta today, a lot of the times when he was in possession he was looking everywhere to make a pass but no one wanted it (1st half), I was frustated for him.

In the second half I think he done his job and was ok, it was a derby and he just had to stick to his job no fancy shiiite today and I think he did that.

What exactly did who do badly today? He's clearly still regaining his form, but the last two performances have been solid, on and off the ball, much better in general really.

Theres problems all over the team, and the debate on moyes tactics and gettin the best out of it is questionable this season...

But arteta is meant to be the heartbeat of the side, the creative force. This season i dont think hes been vital and other players like pienaar or osman could do his job better or as good based on his form.

Hes not driving the team. Rightly or wrongly cahill has been. Then imo fellaini or pienaar. A lot of fans think arteta should be that drive.

His assist record is piss poor this season. Hes got 2, and one was hit off a defender. And hes the one that takes corners and freekicks which have been piss poor too

I'm not talking about his form throughout the season, it's well documented that he's not been at his best, but what made him so bad today? He made some of the better passes of the first half, and was generally neat and tidy throughout. Not outstanding by any means, but people go way over the top with the criticism.
