Current Affairs How an Entire Population Becomes MENTALLY ILL

The best video of 2021 so far, smartly explains the senseless inflexibility of many people's views today, especially after a year+ of enduring the pandemic (or rather, enduring society's reaction to it):

MASS PSYCHOSIS - How an Entire Population Becomes MENTALLY ILL

A mass psychosis is an epidemic of madness and it occurs when a large portion of a society loses touch with reality and descends into delusions.

I've seen this quite common trope amongst internet intellectuals of jumping on the first YouTube video that kind of aligns with them as if it is some sort of proof of anything. There are a lot of unfounded leaps in that video from just a brief watch

Qanon is fringe. That's hardly a matter of debate. I agreed this video also speaks to things like Qanon followers, but not just that. Everyone's going a little insane.

Again...hence the "mass".
It's sort of not anymore. It may have started as fringe but it is widely followed now.

I haven't read anything in this thread other than the title and all I can say is that of you fall into any of the below categories then the world would be better without you:

A) Voted Tory, last election or ever
B) Ever considered voting Tory ever ever ever
C) Loves a Tory
D) Voted Brexit
E) See B
F) See C
G) Anti mask, Vaxx conspiracy muppet
H) Doesn't like the Dirty Dancing soundtrack
I) Doesn't cry at Short Circuit (when he gets filled in by them horrible men)
J) See A

Guttenberg had some stinkers but Short Circuit was undoubtedly his finest hour / couple of hours approx.

That video has only been out two weeks and is a sensation considering the heavy subject matter: almost 3m views, over 23,000 comments (the vast majority of which also seem to align with my own thoughts).

Grand Old Team Current Affairs is as niche, even as cultish, as protective of shared ideology, as Qanon forums. Most of yous are way off what most sensible folk are thinking.

And again, i note you not engaging with anything specific...you're just making a vague pronouncement about "unfounded leaps" and 'internet intellectuals'.

Not much substance there, soft lad.

Not really. The dedicated forums aren't even busier than GOT. They get ridiculed by their conservative (less fantastically-minded) peers, who have much busier forums and aren't shy of denouncing Qanon logic.

Lest we forget, Q himself stopped posting in December, a documentary came out in the Spring which made a convincing case Q was merely a trollish roleplay by 8chan admins. I've looked into so-called 'Q-proofs' and they're mostly a ridiculous leap of random pattern-recognition. No substance, really. As the months go on, Qanon activities tire out.

Fascist thinking.

A) Voted Tory, last election or ever
nope.
B) Ever considered voting Tory ever ever ever
Not really, tho' they are unfairly maligned by cultish leftists like many on here. I openly supported Corbyn the last two GE's. LibDems before that.

Lest you forgot: the Tories have been in control for most of all your lives, and Britain is a fine place to live: culturally rich, progressive, and relatively at peace. Most people in non-western nations would love the chance to live in the UK.

The Tories can't be that bad, ay.

C) Loves a Tory
I don't love politicians.

D) Voted Brexit
I understand the vote for Brexit. Do you?

E) See B
F) See C
See linked video in the first post: it's about how mass psychosis affects perception...

G) Anti mask, Vaxx conspiracy muppet
I support anyone's choice to wear a mask or take the vaccine. I don't support mandates for everyone to do so.

H) Doesn't like the Dirty Dancing soundtrack
only girls who cry after petty arguments like that sort of thing.

I) Doesn't cry at Short Circuit (when he gets filled in by them horrible men)
i shed a solitary manly tear when Arthur regained his strength after drinking from the Holy Grail in Excalibur.

Stoic strength in adversity > crying at getting filled in.

Cocoon was his finest work.

Cocoon was his finest work.
We create our own nightmares. Think on that.

I don't think any of us enjoy the man, but Michael Gove did have a point when he said people have had enough of experts.

The 'experts', often talking heads in mainstream media, have proven quite agenda-driven with their spoutings. The trust the science crowd haven't helped, either...it's almost like the masses have twisted science into becoming a religion...and blaspheme anyone who speaks against it, while not realising they are themselves misunderstanding what science is. Mass psychosis. Or maybe it's just idiocracy.

The early signs were there when the most-followed Facebook group that was vaguely sciency was called I F*CKING LOVE SCIENCE!! See also Matt Damon's cringefest:

Describing science as mass psychosis is incredible. Scientists that are experts in their field are genuinely some of the most important people we have going for us at the moment. Both in the short term with regards to covid and the medium/long term with regards to climate change.

Speaking against accepted science is fine if you are an actual scientist that is an expert in your field that has worked on challenging the current thinking.

People with no experience working in the field have no business challenging these people whatsoever.

That’s why anti-vaxxers are largely morons. If it was only people who don’t want it because it’s their choice it would be difficult enough to take. But it’s the other group of them that are the real problem. Those that believe it is being used to infect us with chips, mind control us, wipe people out etc etc. “We don’t know what’s in them?!” Guess who does know what’s in them, the bloody scientists who can understand the openly available lists of ingredients which you can easily find should one care too.

Finally, why have you put a link of a Matt Damon sci-fi film? Not sure what that has to do with anything.

Describing science as mass psychosis is incredible.
Who did that?

I was describing the abuse of the term science as a means to control debate as psychotic.

Speaking against accepted science is fine if you are an actual scientist that is an expert in your field that has worked on challenging the current thinking.
Who is doing that? Or where did you see that?

People with no experience working in the field have no business challenging these people whatsoever.
Again, who is challenging who? You referring to criticism of the conflict-of-interest piece in The Lancet?

That’s why anti-vaxxers are largely morons.
What is why? What you said above? It's all a bit incoherent and strawmanny.

Are you just putting people with opinions you don't understand into a box marked "morons"?

If it was only people who don’t want it because it’s their choice it would be difficult enough to take.
Why would that be difficult for you to take?

But it’s the other group of them that are the real problem. Those that believe it is being used to infect us with chips, mind control us, wipe people out etc etc.
What other group...Qanon again? I don't think these far-out ideas they have are that big of an issue. Most folk who are not yet ready or willing to take the vaccine do not believe crazy conspiracy theories, they mostly have sensible real-world concerns. As valid as your concerns to want to take the thing.

Appeal to authority is all over your post.

Did you watch the video? I do believe it can speak to you, if you open your mind.

I was specifically talking to your point of saying you understand why people are bored of experts. I was saying that it is stupid to be bored of experts, especially when it comes to science which can save your life and the lives of others.

Who are the people you mention as “speaking against science”? If you meant qualified, informed people then fine.

And I was explicit in which “other group” I was talking about and listed the type of people I was talking about. You brought QAnon into it not me. There might be some crossover but a lot of the people I talk about are not QAnon followers. They are morons though. Read what I said again and tell me people that believe we are being chipped by the vaccine are not morons. That the vaccine is linked to 5G

As for finding it difficult to understand people refusing to take the vaccine for personal choice, that is my personal choice.

I have not watched the video but I will. But I don’t need to watch the video to disagree with most of what you said in the post I replied to.

Oh dear. Numbers don’t mean anything despite you repeatedly saying they do. A lot of people, like yourself, like easy pretences of being clever.

You’re quite demonstrably wrong on what you’ve said about the forum, not that it matters, you silly, silly boy.

I was specifically talking to your point of saying you understand why people are bored of experts.
I never said that. Had enough is a quite distinct sentiment to bored.

I was saying that it is stupid to be bored of experts, especially when it comes to science which can save your life and the lives of others.
Science can also kill people. This deification of the term science is a bit of an issue.

My remark about understanding why folk have had enough of experts came on the back of The Lancet (experts, apparently) publishing disinformation, with conflict-of-interest to boot.

What is arguably stupid is still trusting that particular expert after this particular revelation.

And that is merely one example of many thousands...here is an infamous example of an expert:

and another one:

Trust the science lol

Who are the people you mention as “speaking against science”? If you meant qualified, informed people then fine.
eh? you did that, not me.

And I was explicit in which “other group” I was talking about and listed the type of people I was talking about.
You was not explicit at all. Not specific, either. You're being vague, at best.

Try quoting yourself the bit you think is being "explicit"...

You brought QAnon into it not me.
I didn't, it was brought up by other posters, so I assumed you may have meant them too.

There might be some crossover but a lot of the people I talk about are not QAnon followers. They are morons though.
Do you wonder if they regard you as a moron too?

Read what I said again and tell me people that believe we are being chipped by the vaccine are not morons. That the vaccine is linked to 5G.
I've no idea where you're getting any of this.

I have not watched the video but I will.
Well, I am interested in what you think of it.

what a strange post.

@Wizard

further to your appeal to authority:

That video, from 1:20 onwards: "protect the unvaccinated kids with a shield of vaccinated people"...implying vaccinated won't transmit as high a viral load as the unvaxxed.

Yet the science disagrees:

Delta infections after two vaccine doses had similar peak levels of virus to those in unvaccinated people

Trust the science... or trust the experts?

in life, we often have to think for ourselves...as relying on perceived authority can get messy once two different authorities conflict with each other...for then who do you decide to follow? In this case: the revered expert Dr Fauci? Or a scientific study from Oxford?
