The best video of 2021 so far, smartly explains the senseless inflexibility of many people's views today, especially after a year+ of enduring the pandemic (or rather, enduring society's reaction to it):

MASS PSYCHOSIS - How an Entire Population Becomes MENTALLY ILL

A mass psychosis is an epidemic of madness and it occurs when a large portion of a society loses touch with reality and descends into delusions.

Qanon is the perfect example really. Or other conspiracy theorists like Covid deniers or all the anti-semitism/Illuminati stuff.
One perceptive comment under this video:

It's amazing to me to read the comments -- and how convinced both sides are that they are right and those on the "other side" are the gullible fools being manipulated.

Qanon is interesting as they're often utterly wrong about almost everything, yet remain convinced there's still something to their ideology. Tho' the disheartened are becoming more vocal as the goalposts keep shifting.

The Mass Psychosis video doesn't just speak to a fringe movement like Qanon, however...hence "mass" psychosis, rather than "fringe".

It’s nothing to do with fringe. Qanon is exactly the kind of thing the article pertains to. Loss of reality and loss of intellectual analysis on a large scale. Ignoring empirical evidence and framing thought process to suit preconceived notions. Cognitive dissonance at grand proportions. The witch hunts of Salem et al being an example they use.

Qanon is fringe. That's hardly a matter of debate. I agreed this video also speaks to things like Qanon followers, but not just that. Everyone's going a little insane.

Again...hence the "mass".

‘Mass’ is relative here. Whilst qanon might be fringe relative to society as a whole it is 100% an example of mass psychosis.

It's not about being proven right, it's for others to prove you wrong.

You can say the most stupid of things like lizard cannibals are killing underage sex abusers. Can you prove them wrong? No cos it shouldn't need to, it's stupid. But that's where they have you and where they fuel the uneducated, drug infused, mentally handicapped readers on the internet.

These things are usually mushroom-led discussions with friends who are baked. Now it's cultural discourse with a following.

Exactly. They're conversations in your mates house as a laugh.

Now they're online and start a following
Aye. I remember hearing about the lizards being behind heads-of-state back in early-00's. Then you got Icke, Alex Jones...so a random posting as "Q" on a chan forum was the natural next step.

The Qanon threat level has been hugely overstated. Maybe there's a reason for that (i.e. how Qanon has moved two of you so far to comment on a video which is far broader).

Another perceptive comment under the upload:

The most dangerous thing for those of us watching is to think "Not me! I haven't been suckered." Better to think about ways you may have been fooled and to educate and strengthen yourself.

The inevitable result of deliberate misinformation and propaganda. How is that ‘Covid definitely derived naturally, probably from a wet market’ coming along?

It was unequivocal a few months ago. Not so much anymore.

curiouser and curiouser...

The worst thing about this is the article printed by the Lancet, which unequivocally stated that the virus could only have derived from natural sources. The article was written by a bloke that was involved in the American funding of the Wuhan Institute of Virology ffs!

I don’t think we will ever be able to conclusively find out where the virus derived from, but it is a shame that publications like the Lancet were willing to print such misinformation / propaganda. People used to have faith in publications like the Lancet, and they’d refer to it as gospel. Not anymore!

I don't think any of us enjoy the man, but Michael Gove did have a point when he said people have had enough of experts.

The 'experts', often talking heads in mainstream media, have proven quite agenda-driven with their spoutings. The trust the science crowd haven't helped, either...it's almost like the masses have twisted science into becoming a religion...and blaspheme anyone who speaks against it, while not realising they are themselves misunderstanding what science is. Mass psychosis. Or maybe it's just idiocracy.

The early signs were there when the most-followed Facebook group that was vaguely sciency was called I F*CKING LOVE SCIENCE!! See also Matt Damon's cringefest:
