Horse Racing

What happened to Gold Dancer was indefensible to be honest and the reason why I have turned off jump racing over the past 6 years. Don't know if I can be bothered to even have a bet tomorrow on the National after that. Much prefer flat racing nowadays.

…I’m really into my national hunt racing but even I find it increasingly difficult to reconcile incidents like that.

I just love the horses so much and said to Mrs Eggs in real time ‘that’s nasty, surely he should be pulled up’. The reality is, the damage was done and it wouldn’t have saved the horse but it was a bad look and just seemed wrong.

I welcome what they’ve done to the National fences, it’s a plus ‘it’s not the race it was’, it’s much safer and higher class these days. Fingers crossed they all return to their stables safe and sound today.

Sky News Sports bulletin and not a mention of Grand National day this morning.

As I’ve said on here before I’ve been involved in 5 horses and 3 of them have died as a result of racing incidents - 2 of those were flat horses

It’s definitely affected my enjoyment of the sport, but I do still attend meetings and bet (although less so)

It's all the cover up afterwards for me that's disgusting. The jockey 100% knew for me what happened as why get off straight after the finishing line. But it's all been brushed under the carpet and that's what is doing more damage to the sport. They are taking us all for fools. The jockey should be getting a lengthy ban but nothing will happen. Even the commentators straight away said something wasn't right with the horse after the final fence. BHA comes out with utter nonsense etc. It just doesn't look good at all. Feel sorry Aintree as well as they clearly have tried to make it much safer for the horses. Like I said, always had a bet on the Grand National but really not sure if I will or not today after that.

…..to be fair, the vet came on and explained the situation on telly afterwards but I do think winning that race was uppermost in Paul Townends mind. It wouldn’t have made a difference to the sad outcome but it was in the best interest of the horse to pull him up after that error, I was actually concerned enough to be watching his action after he got momentum going again. Not good.

I think the vet was chatting rubbish to be honest mate. They all know how bad it looked and trying everything to make it seem ok. Was clear for everyone to see. Paul Townends knew what had happened but wanted to win at all cost so whipped and pushed the horse home. Nothing will happen though.

Haiti Couleurs as it won for me in the Welsh National £5ew at 20/1

Gerri Colombe £5ew at 33/1 as it’s was a class horse on his day and looks the right kind of profile of a national winner if back to his best.

Disgraceful that jockey whoever he was, I hope he watches that back and it haunts him.

They shouldn't have been showing clips of the incident later on the news, it was sickening and I wished I hadn't have seen it tbh.
