Horse Racing

…..hearing on the grapevine that Narciso Has is out for the season. Short priced favourite for Triumph Hurdle and seen as one of the Festival bankers, one i had nicely covered in my book. Ouch.

Hopefully we get to see him fit and well next season.

GORDON LEE,the horse.
There is a story today on everton news about a horse called gordon lee, 2yo hoping to have its first run in june, anyone know any more about it, owners, trainer etc.

…..last night the group of punters I’m part of had their annual Festival plunge.

I must say that unlike me, these are mainly serious punters, Cheltenham is more than a bit of fun for them. Each year one who is particularly well connected (owns horses, strong links with Skelton’s) does his research and identifies a selection, which he announces to us all at a specific time so we get our bets on before the price collapses.

I’ve given up posting them quickly on here because such is the level of immediate punting, the value has gone in minutes. We’ve done ok over the years, last year we plunged on Busselton who ran like a drain but he did put up a nice double both of which won.

I’m definitely not suggesting anybody bets on last nights plunge because it quickly went from 33-1 to a best 14-1 but for a bit of interest it was Hyland in the Ultima trained by Henderson. Admit, he wasn’t on my radar, especially being a 9yo but I did have a bit e/w at 33s. He also gave a double, Donnacha in the Plate (one I had already backed) and Herakles Westwood in Kim Muir.

A bit of fun, a few to keep an eye on.

…I’d like to think my book is pretty much done now and I do think I’ve got some ‘holes’ in the novice events which I’m normally most confident about.

If I hear anything, I’ll post them but the handicaps are so difficult. The group I’m in do daily Yankees and an overall Yankee which haven’t been the most profitable if I’m honest but I’m happy to share those for a bit of interest in a couple of weeks time.

…..must reiterate, this is not a tip.

Cheltenham handicaps are impossible, everything is trying but a bloke I chat with who really knows his stuff gave me Zanndabad yesterday, currently 25-1 for Martin Pipe at Festival. I won’t make the case, suffice to say his trainer is ‘handicap king’ and it looks like he’s been put away since winning easily at Newcastle in Nov.

Irish trained, owned by a syndicate from Durham I’ve watched his races back and he could be a bit of a plot. I’ve now had a little interest, he’s also entered for Coral Cup for which he’s also 25s so I’ve covered him for that too. With NRNB you get your stake back if he doesn’t turn up.

He’s an interesting one.

…..apparently this one has been scratched from his other two entries, looking like Martin Pipe is his destination and firms are noticing him a bit. Lots of blue on Oddschecker but 365 still offer 25s.

Maybe worth a little interest.

…..chatting with owner of Chosen Comrade earlier, he can’t believe she’s 66-1 with Hills for Mares Novice Hurdle.

She was unbeaten until her last run in the mud at Punchestown. Very positive about her and think she can make the frame especially if the ground is decent.

….great find, he’s US based and a top bloke. Very close with P Fahey, the two are no strangers to the winners enclosure. I didn’t want to say too much but this is exactly what he said when I told him she was 66-1 with Hills;

‘Absolutely insulting price. I honestly do not understand it. She is working better than ever, and Sam Ewing won't have out of the places on ground she will enjoy. She scoped perfectly this morning. If we hadn't run at Punchestown (on ground far too heavy) she would be 20's or less. We're not going for a day out.’

If you look at her form before getting stuck in the mud at Punchestown it’s very decent. From a personal perspective, I have 40-1 for the odds-on favourite, Bambino Fever. I’m delighted to have her in my book but I do think she’s vulnerable.

There’s always ‘owners bias’ but I know Paul enough to determine she’s way overpriced and they’re a bit annoyed. It’s Cheltenham, everything goes with a chance but at 66-1 NRNB (or 50-1 generally), Chosen Comrade could outrun her odds, worth a few quid each way.

I’ve backed her but as is always the case at this meeting, don’t go mad.
