It's poor that England haven't won the European championship bearing in mind the other teams who have multiple success.

Scotland had a very good team in 78 and they certainly underachieved.
However given the resources England have had at their disposal over the years, the ultimate underachiever tag goes to England.
The reason may be that our leagues are more physically demanding or maybe there's just better international teams out there.
Who knows.

Was 8 year between World Cups for them.

Mad when you look at the populations and the countries that participated.

The media. The gutter filth red top media. Any kid or young talent that crops up now is destroyed before he's 20. The sheer volume of abuse via social-media is enough to have some want to score ten OG's a game to get their own back. A country so divided along tribal lines of pure hatred doesn't deserve nice things.

That describes society in general, even this forum can sometimes descend into this. Who remembers the Eskimos versus the posters against The Esk (I can't remember that particular sect) or even if Bootle is scouse or wool it's certainly wool. @chicoazul

Look at the latest Rugby world cup, all those fans jumping on the bandwagon because they thought they'd a sniff at winning something after being hyped up. Most of the people in the crowd weren't even born in Ireland is my bet.

Don't forget they were also coached by a lot of world class coaches as well, Wenger, Ferguson, Mourinho and many more.

Yeah I meant the England managers, and the coaching that players had growing up too

If England/Holland ended 4 0, Scotland would have got out the group. Late goal for Holland scuppered that.

Ireland and Wales have other sports to compete with. Norn has like 500 people.

England and Scotland compete for this title.
I went for Scotland due to the fact they have one sport, a national league with 42 professional teams, and rarely produce a solid 11.
That world cup they were at ,in 98, was ace. Decent enough 11 but still lacked a top class forward.
England are just bottlers.

As an Englishman I find the envy of the smaller nations quite difficult sometimes. I don't really want them to look up to me and wish there were English..I didn't choose to be English, I didn't ask for any of this. It really can be uncomfortable at times.

Its been covered many times before...population isn't everything, but it is one of three major factors, the other teo being wealth (you can afford to spend your childhood learning to play a game and have proper nitrition and health care) and footballing tradition/infrastructure (it has been a journey for the usa to get to where they are because a large portion of the population don't care, there was no path to a paid career, poor coaching throughout your developing years).

Cant choose between england and Scotland tho.
