History of Everton's buys from Abroad

....very good thread and interesting that we've had so few 'successful' direct imports. Whilst the league is awash with foreigners, I suppose many jump from British club to British club. Read the point made about RM being our first foreign manager, but even he very much raided the British market 9except Gerry Delafou). I did expect him to go further afield, especially with him supposedly having a global understanding of the market.

great read. funny to look at some of those early buys. we seemed determined to make sure they were dull as possible to avoid any falshy foreigner accusations, although I can just about remember a Brazilian forward who was supposed to be on his way here in the early 80s according to him and the Echo. He announced that he would definitely score in the derby. The only other thing I remember is that he didn't

I remember Muller nearly joining us in early 90's, not the one you were thinking of?

Most of our foreigners have shone brightly then faded (Andrei, Yak), had a few cameos (Madar, Amo, Materazzi, Dacourt) or been shocking (Bakayoko, Koldrup, Nyarko).

With that in mind, truth be told, our best overseas player is probably Fellaini. Our record signing - and record sale, he at least maintained some level of consistency for the duration of his stay.
