I suppose in a sense the armed forces are akin to a cult. Indoctrination and blindly following orders/chain of command, subservient behaviour and allegiance to a leader. See also, the bizzies.
Had an ex forces mate who almost punched me and was shouting in my face when I explained my reasoning of being a republican. This was a few years back when we had the bank holiday for one of the weddings. He had a few but I find it bizarre that someone would physically threaten a friend over something like that. I wasn't even goading him and I explained it wasn't anything personal with the royals and definitely not an issue with the forces.

I guess if you go through the whole training and indoctrination thing and swear publicly to give your life for someone like a Prince Charles....

Personally I'm a pacifist and would love all armies disbanded.

I ❤️ her.

Meghan Sparkle I call her.
I don’t hold any particular views on any of them. It’s all a soap opera I choose to swerve.

(Hmm, correction, deffo not a fan of Charles, or Andrew obvs)

I do however object to the spiteful, agenda driven vilification of an individual, which the British press is clearly orchestrating at someone’s behest.

I think there are a lot of people who are angry at their own lives, possibly feeling a lack of control or powerlessness who are lashing out at Queen Liz and the monarchy blaming them for their situation and how everything would be ok if it wasn't for them.

Ironically as I expect a lot of them to be remainers, I think the same mode of thinking applied to many people who wanted Brexit.

I was very proud to serve my country and my Queen and it makes me sad to see such irrational hatred but it's not completely unexpected from these quarters.

Like I said mate, I’m not knocking anybody who signed up, just from personal experience of seeing friends going off when we were younger.

Nearly all my mates who joined the forces, joined as it was a family thing - dad, grandad etc had all served.

All of them were / still are fiercely proud of their units / regiments.

The ones who’ve seen combat, all seem to say the same thing - “ you’re fighting for your mates first ( staying alive ), your regiment / unit second and your country third”
