Current Affairs Her majesty the Queen

I think there are a lot of people who are angry at their own lives, possibly feeling a lack of control or powerlessness who are lashing out at Queen Liz and the monarchy blaming them for their situation and how everything would be ok if it wasn't for them.

Ironically as I expect a lot of them to be remainers, I think the same mode of thinking applied to many people who wanted Brexit.

I was very proud to serve my country and my Queen and it makes me sad to see such irrational hatred but it's not completely unexpected from these quarters.
As i started to read this post i genuinely thought it was going to go along the lines of 'who are latching on to Queen Liz and the monarchy...' and quite easily could have. Its been mentioned a few times on here already that both extremes, pro and anti, are compensating for their own insecurities and inadequacies and are equally as pathetic.

I don’t really get this “ Iwas proud to serve my Queen” stuff…. Most people I know who signed up done it for the money or job security…. Not one of them at 16/17/18 years of age once said “I want to serve my Queen”. Now I’m not knocking anyone who’s been in the forces but let’s not pretend it was borne out of any sense of duty to the monarchy.

Each to their own I guess.

I saw @fandjango mentioned something similar, maybe it's something you have to experience.

I don’t think many people believe that if we got rid of the queen, their lives would necessarily be better. I’ve thought for a long time now that it was an archaic institution that has little to no purpose apart from serving as a means of protecting upper classes. Also understand I’m not in the majority with this.
I’m not going to deny that many people also feel a great deal of loss and sadness. What I think a lot of people are pushing back against is this narrative of ‘nation in mourning’ and ‘grandmother to the people’ I don’t want any association with that. I don’t live in the U.K. right now and feel pretty embarrassed at having to explain all this to my work mates as they all think it’s nuts.

I think more people come out of the forces with that mindset than go in with it.

I personally know six lads that joined up over the years, one was a complete rogue with no real options and has spent most of his time since leaving either up to no good or in prison. Another joined the cadets and fell in love with the whole set up, though is a fairly heavy boozer these days. I'd say four of them were what you might describe as 'lost souls', easily manipulated by people and willing to act the clown, always looking for somewhere to belong.
I know none of them went in with a burning desire to serve the queen but a few latched onto that narrative out of the service during the last 20 odd years to accompany their broken relationships and alcoholism.

I doubt that many people at 16/17/18 have ever said that, but after the end of their time in whatever service that requires an oath to be sworn a lot of people do think a variation of that - perhaps not pride at serving the Queen personally, but pride at serving the same thing that she served for so many years. She was (and the monarch is) a part in the same machine as them, after all in a way that politicians very rarely are (and of course there was the massive difference between a visit to your base / ship / station / whatever from HM compared to any politician).

I suppose in a sense the armed forces are akin to a cult. Indoctrination and blindly following orders/chain of command, subservient behaviour and allegiance to a leader. See also, the bizzies.
