I suppose my point is do we need to be signing specifically English players (he's not really young in a footballing sense at 24)? In a world where Bournemouth are signing Truffert, Jimenez and Rayan for between £14-£24m each and seeing them go straight into their best side and make an impact, or where Sunderland are getting Roefs, Mukiele, Alderete, Sadiki etc all for sub £20m I don't actually agree with the idea that £20m is chump change, we've just become so used to overpaying for everyone that we've become immune to it and started to believe that you can't buy anyone for less than £25m, or that everyone bought from overseas needs 3 years to settle in.
Like I said, i'm not going to sit here saying he's rubbish because I don't think he is, and like you say all transfers are obviously risky in their own way, I'm just saying I kind of agreed with the initial post saying that I hope we don't get sucked into paying more than we wanted to unless we're completely convinced that he's exactly what we're looking for.
