Has it all gone a bit wrong?

PMSL at this thread.

We've just played three Champions League teams, all of whom got through to the knockout stages last season - Valencia to round of 16, Juventus to the quarter finals and Real Madrid to the semi finals.

We beat Juventus (the reigning Italian Champions) on pens, after a very creditable draw, and we lost by a single goal to both Real and Valencia.

There were no thrashings or humiliations. Lots of players got game time, include great youngsters like Barkley and Stones. No injuries either.

People crying about our defence are being utterly, utterly ridiculous.

12 months ago, almost to the day, we lost 2-0 away at Championship side BLACKPOOL. People were fuming after that, but no one was fearing for the season ahead.

Give Martinez the same respect and stop knee-jerking so horribly. And if you must worry, at least consider the calibre of opposition we've just faced.

I think it's a bit tongue in cheek mate. You're totally right with everything you say.

TBH, I've found most of the hysterical stuff is coming from those supporting 'giving it a season' and all that lark. Most people are voicing observations, nothing more.

So Martinez has tried to implement some new tactics and it all looks fairly terrible at the moment, players don't look comfortable with the positions they're being asked to play and we look poor defensively. The signings he's made haven't been great in my opinion and he generally looks a bit lost on the touchline.

How long into the season do we give him if it's not working? We haven't kept a clean sheet this pre-season and alarm bells are ringing already for me.

To be honest I don't agree with us looking terrible right now considering we're playing new ideas. Why does Martinez look lost on the touchline? how did you come to that conclusion? no clean sheets against top clubs and alarms bells are ringing. LOL, how did you feel when we lost to blackpool 2 nil last pre season?

Could not disagree more.

This all day, I think Roberto's settling in really well. The US tour has been great, I didn't see the Valencia game but I'm sure with 3 games in a week, all played in the summer heat, the lads were probably fit to drop by the end - great for pre-season fitness work. As BoysInBlue said, no humiliations and lots of game time for everyone, including Barkley Oviedo and Stones and we've had no injuries so far. Obviously in a dream world I'd like us to be bidding for Gareth Bale, but thats Bills side of things. So in the real world it's all positive in my eyes and I think he'll be here for the long haul.

Allez Allez Allez Ooh!

against blackburn we played really well.We won't be playing juventus, real madrid and valencia every week. The players seemed to knackered last nite with the heat over 10 days.We will know where we are at the weekend against real betis. The players looked comfortable apart from 20 mins against real madrid and last nite.Once we get a settled team playing week in week out we will be fine.I agree with the players he has brought in but again it is early days yet.
