In moderation it has no major impact on athletes - especially if it’s the off-season and the body has time to ‘repair’ which it’s designed to do. It’s a far cry from Robin Friday or George Best partying late with strippers and then getting up the next day to play a match.
Most serious athletes (in sports other than footie) seem to avoid alcohol during their competition season.

That very much depends on their background and culture.

With you on this one, I don't grudge him a night with his mates and an occasional foray is surely not going to dent his personal fitness long term or otherwise.

I think given the background and culture of most footballers plus the fact most are obviously in an 18-35 young age bracket, they are going to go out and party especially pre-season or whenever there is a window of opportunity, personally I don't see a problem with that if they then take responsibility for their own actions or more importantly put safeguards in place (hiring personal security or a private room?)
In this case it was clearly not done and added to this Harry boy sadly does not appear to be the sharpest tool in the box, he also seems to have dug an even deeper hole for himself with his post incident actions (allegedly)

However Harry being a Man U. player I'm not going to lose sleep over this one just thought I'd throw my tuppence worth in.

More holes in the story than...

What Niel Ashton (ex Sunday Supplement now Man U PR) has achieved here is utterly incredible.

He has managed to spin a Drunk Harry maguire, ignoring Covid / social distancing in a bar before finding himself in a scrap with police, getting nicked and then getting found guilty in a court of law, into a miscarriage of justice, kidnapping, stabbing and god knows what else.

They now have the entire media batting for Captain Harry as if he is some sort of modern day POW. Aston has pulled an absolute blinder

Typical right-wing supporting media. Hate anything foreign, especially law enforcement when it involves drunken brits.

An as yet undiscovered amoeba that had never encountered humanity could tell he was lying in that interview.

“I can’t hold my booze, I messed up, here’s a sizeable donation to the Cypriot police charity and I’m very sorry” would probably suffice.
