2024/25 Harrison Armstrong

I suppose it depends on what pssses he’s making. It seems derby also have less possession. Is he trying to force things with his passing as he’s not seeing loads of the ball, which will hopefully get better with experience.
Jordon Henderson would have over 90% every game and would basically pass it square and back 10 yards all game, but then get lauded for his pass stats
Yeah I was thinking the same , when he’s playing deep he turns, shields the ball and makes a simple pass to a team mate with a very high % of accuracy when needed. Further forward he often looks for the defence splitting pass, is very good at getting the right weight on the ball but it’s cut out more often than when he’s playing deeper. He’s still improving and learning though .

….you don’t mind that risk in the attacking third, especially with reward like the pass to Beto; wowzy.

I read a few comparisons to Rodwell but he’s about the safest passer I ever saw, rarely took the ball on the spin and almost always passed it the way he was facing. The better players, the braver players can transition by taking the ball on the spin and keep momentum going.

Armstrong looks to have a good range of passing but I’m non the wiser to his best position.

I know it’s youth football, but he seemed to
Play higher up for the Everton youth sides. Got 3 goals and 3 assists in that youth cup game against Forest. Yet for derby is paying as a holding midfielder. According to the BBC , Derby played 4141 and he was the one between the two 4’s

Yeah you’re basically correct , he’s mainly playing as a holding midfielder . But Derby now play with a back 3 and two wing backs , last game the BBC had a 3-1-4 2 formation with Armstrong the “1” . It’s not very rigid as they went into 5-3-2 at times and a few games ago the BBC had it as 3-5-2 at the start. I would simplify as a back 3 , 2 wing backs , 2 up front and 3 in the middle . The 3 in the middle are Armstrong who is the deepest , Thompson is often alongside him, Adams goes further forward, but drops back if they’re defending more. It’s intriguing focussing on Armstrong, having no previous knowledge of Derby, and trying to figure out what their formation is……..and knowing that someone else will say “ Eh? That’s not how they play” 😉

I agree with that, you even look at something like his goal v United and he was tentative to move forward at first.
If that was a coaching or confidence thing I'm not sure.

I'd say his running style and physique are what remind me of Rodwell, as well as that 'soft' stroke of the ball he can do, if he can add the bravery off a pass and possibly aggression to win the ball back than we would have some player

In our team if we keep Gana he can learn of the best ......

That's interesting BL . In the few minutes I've seen him play for Everton ( unlike you I haven't seen him in the youth teams ) he was one of the furthest advanced midfielders , almost a 10.

Looks a very talented boy
