Harris "I've made no progress trying to sell Everton"

Unsurprising. The reasons in the article relating to the city seem valid, and there are a lot of other clubs up for sale.

On the bright side the future of theStanley Park Red Sox is not looking rosey. Made me smile which is not a bad thing at 07:20 on a chilly Wednesday morning when the heating is off in the office.

I've made the point a few times but I don't really understand the point about Liverpool being a relatively poor city. We have fans from around the world so I don't see why we should be so reliant on our home city for income.

He raises valid points about the attractiveness of the club to investors at the moment though. I fear we're in a chicken and egg situation at the moment though.

Sounds to me like we are being marketed wrongly.

Rather than be marketed as a "rich man's plaything" which a lot of clubs seem to aim towards, we should be marketing ourselves as a challenge to the business world.

We'd get less money, but I'd rather have a relatively "poor" investor who cares and works hard for the club, than a "rich" investor who couldn't really give a [Poor language removed] past saying "yes I own a premiership club" to his billionaire mates.

Two observations:

Harris is managing expectations, despite media reports nothing was likely to happen before DK is determined. DK looks less likely than ever, and perhaps it is this fact above all else that has deterred investors.

Clearly new investment is dependent upon a new stadium, preferably not paid for by the new investors. Everton cannot say that publicly as it would significantly damage their position in the forthcoming Public Enquiry.

However that conclusion is there for all to see, and alongside the clear breach of planning policy is IMO the reason why DK will not go ahead, and de facto Everton will not be sold anytime soon.

Re Liverpool's repayment of debt, the key date is next July, they have an option to continue the debt financing provided by RBS and Wachovia.

Watch the club sold being sold off as quick as [Poor language removed] off a shovel when the Kirkby decision is in next summer/autumn.

The Harris ruse was always a holding operation for BK - one that he can dispense with now that the recession becomes the great explanation of why we are not getting sold (despite billionaires being pretty much copper-bottomed from such matters..the ones BK was 'seeking' to buy the club. )

We'll be sold within a calander year, whatever way they Kirkby Shitdome decision goes.

Dave im not sure if thats optimisom or pessimisim! Probably the latter!(y)

As far as I understand there are three types of 'buyer' which are in the market to buy premier league clubs:

#1. The Abromovitch - essentially unlimited amounts of cash. Buys club for fun and/or prestige reasons. Can fund unlimited player purchases until he gets bored of not winning the Champions league. Wouldn't necessarily be bothered by DK as can fund another stadium elsewhere.

#2. The Glazers/ Taksim Thingummywotsit/Icelandic biscuit billionaire/ Hick and Giblet - leveraged buy out using debt later heaped on the club on the understanding that future interest/debt repayments can be covered by earnings on the back of success bought by substantial but limited investment in new players. DK would be an essential plank in any buyout plan.

#3. The Gulf investment group - in theory has unlimited amounts of cash, but not clear what their motive is to buy - fun, prestige, smokescreen for an appalling human rights record, or investment on expectation of profitable return. Not clear whether DK would affect sale.

My guess is that while there may be a large number of people with sufficient cash to be a #1, few if any give a toss about footy and anyway would not like the kind of media/political scrutiny of their affairs that Roman is currently getting upset about.

Which leaves #2 and #3 both of which are risky. #2 because it's not their money they're buying with, and if it goes tits up it's the club that's left owing the money. #3 because it's not clear exactly what their motivation is in buying or whether they are likely to have any interest in the long term future of the club if the UK economy tanks and incomes drop substantially.

Take your pick

But given the current global financial uncertainty and the fact that the UK economy is already in recession which looks likely to be deeper and longer than that of the 80s I'm not surprised that no one is buying.
And the fact that no one is interested in Newcastle either tends to suggest the lack of interest in Everton has little or nothing to do with DK.

I reckon that Kenwright is a bad man.

Its some sort of plot, possibly with alien visitation, where he wants to run us into the ground. I mean he says he wants to sell then someone says that its hard to find a buyer. Its not like theres a credit crunch on, loads of people are minted these days. The Lottery rollover has bound to be won by a blue and how many oil rich Arabs are there in the world - loads. Theyre well rich too as petrol went dead expensive and everyone knows that the CIA were behind this.

Ha ha now that just sounds as if you have an agenda!
