The chest thumping patriotism is intensifying in here. Soz lads, but English people are the only country who aren't allowed support their international football team. This is just a fact
It's building nicely isn't it, Germany going out had added to a few extra sofa in the front garden I reckon, the fallout will reach at least 2010 levels, who knows though

If the point is the rivalry, I don't believe a two way rivalry exists on masse, and that's based on my personal experiences of both countries, id it just a one way rivalry based on football? In some cases sure probably, in others, I don't think so, I mean they don't even play each other often enough for that level of joy expressed at an other's failure, but it made for a genuinely thrilling group, so I'm not complaining

My country could write the book on rivalries our rivals don't know about

Careful mate, with that attitude you'll be down as a member of the EDL from a few on here;

They no nothing of football.
Having that lot singing football coming home on our turf is unforgivable football blasphemy, I will not forget the humiliation of it, just shame it's not us sending them home with a fine Pickford penalty save. But this will do for now.

And yes I did vote remain:)

See that doesn't constitute a rivalry to me

Argentina is a rivalry because they've openly cheated us down the years. There's proper stuff there. Germany are just better than us at football, hence we lose to them a lot

Argentina dislike us and we dislike them. That's a proper rivalry

I dont consider Argentina rivals of ours mate. Agree there have been some moments over the years, football wise, but we have never ever even played them away, ( I think). The dislike you touch on is less football based, certainly on their side, than politics, so in the same way you dismiss the England/German as not a rivalry, the exact same point applies to the England/Argentina rivalry.

Ergo, they care, us less so.

Germany has been England’s rival in a lot more than football. Whereas England crushed Argentina in a few weeks the last time they faced off outside the pitch.

Couldn't care less about the politics mate

86 and 98 are all I need

We've never had matches with Germany like that

Just my view anyway

I honestly don't think we're a proper rival to Germany

Obviously that's wound a lot of folk up and I've had both barrels. I apologise if I came across as an arse to anyone when making the point. To me it just isn't a proper rivalry. If you or anyone else disagrees then fair play

Maybe the England fans are happy because it means, one less big team to face in the knockout stages. I am sure we feel the same way if City, Utd etc were knocked out of the FA cup.
