They got old. Mandzukic retired, Modric and Perisic well into their 30s. Rakitic is done too. That's a lot of talent that isn't really similar to 2018.

Since the World Cup they lost 6-0 to Spain and have lost to the following countries - Hungary, Tunisia, Sweden and Slovenia whilst drawing with the likes of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and Wales
