Groundshare Debate on TalkSport Now

It was a re-development of the old Cardiff Arms Park i believe. £121m was the total cost. God knows why Wembley was so much more, but no-one has ever come to task over that

Dropped on a bit of luck to be honest. Redeveloped a stadia already with 56k capacity to host a rugby world cup and the millennium commission having some coin. Make a bit more room and increase the capacity.

Wiki says it was mainly backed by a private investor, and 46mill came from the millennium commission. Bit similar to citehs ground in that it was built in line with something like an event etc. Funds everywhere when that happens.

Location is a killer though. And with the economy the way it is...balls all chance of us doing anything for beards

My simplistic view on this is simple
Do we want our own world class stadium? Yes
can we do this on our own? No
Is it reasable to redevelop Goodison and can we afford it? No
Do we need a new ground to continue to grow? Yes
So even though we all agree in a ideal world we don't want to share, in my opinion it's the only avenue to explore and I for one would welcome a shared stadium if it meant moving on to the next level, ie competing with the top clubs for the top signatures etc etc.
We bang on about how we need to progress on this forum, however object to the very thing which we need to do in order to progress. We can't fund our own stadium, fact. So i am open to the idea of sharing if it means it pushes us on? What's the alternative lads? We all know there will come a point when all our best sellable assets are gone and we will get left behind even further. That alone would break my heart more than having to share a stadium with them lot.

Really???? Not being sarcastic there pal I can understand your view, ie identity and all that, but I truly believe the ground share could work.

You have your opinion mate, and thats up to you.

But i'm honestly astonished Evertonians would even consider it.

Not gonna go in to to much detail here as I admit my knowledge is not the best. However it did not work as 1860 sold their 50% rights to bayern to save the club as they could have gone under. However we re bigger than 1860 are revenue is more so I believe we could finance a shared stadium.and it works in Italy.

I believe there is a grave danger we could turn into 1860, we'd be seen as using Liverpool's ground.

It doesn't work in Italy. Inter want out the San Siro, Juve have recently moved into a new, English style ground to get away from sharing with Torino at the Stadio Olympico. Lazio want to get away from Roma desperately.

Agreed pal its all about opinions. I'm astonished evertonians won't even consider given the opportunity that could come from it.

Its a myth it would be a great opportunity from it, we'd take a fraction of the income, have to put just as much money into it as we would a new ground/redevelop Goodison and it wouldn't be seen as our ground, it would be Liverpool's. We'd lose our identity and just become an Espanyol, 1860, Torino etc

I'm with Cena here, plus I don't wanna share anything with the red ****e

But boys we ate a far bigger club than 1860 it's a unfair comparison. What's the alternative boys. Ps not saying I think I'm right on this one, still undecided however I would lean to the groundshare as I cant see no other way for us to progress.

I kno we are bigger than 1860, but who's to say if we ever groundshare it would stay that way?

Alternative, well i'm banging the redevelopment drum, I stand my opinion that no club bar Man City has been successful from changing their grounds, whereas the ones who stayed, ie Man Utd, remained successful.

How to do it, well we've established whatever we do, we havent got the money, why not start small now, redevelop part by part each season, put a plan in place for the next 10,15,20 years to get the ground we all want for the future.

I would find it hard supporting Everton if we groundshared
