Greek Financial Crisis

He was wrong, he thought he could strike a better deal than he could.
To be fair, I thought the same, and I wasn't alone

Again, to be fair, I was wrong about the vote in the referendum, which I thought might swing to Yes at the last moment as people realised a No vote while not being prepared to quit the Euro didn't really square things.

The referendum gave Tsipras the winning hand to play. He had it in his hands. All aces. He folded because he hadn't prepared the ground for an alternative future. It's one of the most appalling acts of betrayal I can think of.

It played out the way a lot of cynics had predicted (not me, btw, I thought they'd default): a left party now willingly taken into the fold because it's the only political force out there that can administer what the enemies of democracy want - control over the Greek working class and a rolling back of the state and implementation of privatisation. In the end that is what the Syriza leadership's historical task has been on the face of it. We wait and see how far they get with that, but they have put the wheels in motion.

He could have struck a better deal. He just had to say, we're out, we're defaulting on all our debts and you'll be taking the haircut. He bottled it........

Perhaps the threats were stronger than we're lead to believe if they didn't back down?

None of this has been 'legitimate'.

Pulling faces? Stunning.

The reference to Greece was as an example that regardless of the democratic process, decisions are made by others. Governments pander to commerce and when they don't do as they are wished to do then external forces come into play, happened there it happens here.

It's a simple enough concept.

Pulling faces indeed, the thought of it...

There you have it mate, I never made any ref to Greece you did. BTW if you look at my posts on the Greece mess you will see I have made strong points about them being interfered with and held to ransom.

Aye, you have a good fume on t'internet mate.
Meanwhile, back in the real world ...

Baffling.

Ok mate, you take your ball home.

You popcorned Blues for months in the various Martinez threads.
If you can't take it, don't dish it out !

Having said that, on this subject you do come across as someone who's very much pushing some sort of theoretical political rhetoric who seems to think they know better than the Greeks what's good for them, and you probably don't care very much about the Greek people themselves.

Oh 'Popcorn' was it.

That'll explain it then.

And I did. I brought up Greece as a relevant and very recent example of the point I was making, how you have got that into some he said she said mess I have no idea. It is an example, a comparison that, like the Greek situation, those that on the face of it in this country make the percieved decisions don't. Their path is dictated by external unaccountable forces.

Big difference between us and Greece, we are not in the Eurozone so the likes of the Eurozone countries cannot dictate to us as they have done to Greece, thank goodness.

So VAT on food and drink for the Islands goes up from Monday now and not 1st of October.Have i read that correctly ? If so it will open a whole can of worms.WHAT AN FFFFING MESS.

Not actually talking about eurozone countries, I'm talking about corporate vested interests, of which we are in an identical situation to Greece, as are others too.
