It involves some washers (metal and teflon) a screw driver, a torx driver, some TIM (Thermal Interface Material...like Artic Silver 5) and a bit of work.

My DIY isn't a dodgy job, but I do have a fair bit of experience in the old electronics world. My way is much faster than Microsoft, plus it won't fail again.

The root cause of the problems is the X-clamps MS used to hold the heatsinks on the chips. Replace those and you will be set.
