GOT Wrestle Fest Fan Thread

aye but in the amateurs you get paid no matter what where in WWE you get paid on appearences which asre based on storylines / events.

Now if you are a fantastic wrestler but get given a terrible angle then you arent going to get far unless you are unique (big show) so where mark henry is still there despite doing the same thing over and over and lots of younger talent dont even get the chance.

So if you get a gimmick of ruthless aggression and then build that as a rapper and the fans like it then you become the biggest thing since hulk hogan. But you get a gimmick which has you in the lower cards and the fans dont like it then you are dropped and lose a hell of a lot of money despite you being extremly talented.

difference with soaps is that they get paid no matter what, and the football performance based, they get paid if they get dropped from the team anyway. Wrestlers in WWE dont get paid.

All wrestlers get paid, they have a guaranteeed downside to their contracts that mean they get a minimum regardless.

But above that, sure it does depend on how they use you. Even if you're really good and put in loads of effort, if they book you as an opneing match bum you get paid like one.

But as a general rule, knowing 137 moves and doing 16 different suplexes a match doesn't make you a good wrestler. Getting people to pay their money to watch you wrestle makes you a good wrestler. And you do that from having charisma and marketability.

And if you have that you'll generally get booked and used better so make more money for yourself.

It's an odd business wrestling, always has been and always will be. A guy who doesn't give a crap about the business and does the minimum he can often makes more money and goes further than a guy who trys his best and works hard.

Yeah this.

The best example of what i mean is colt cabana. huge draw for a rookie and great on the mic when in the smaller divisions. Called up to the big league, awful gimmick which took nothing he was famous for, booked him to lose matches and then he was gone. Not even given a chance and it was nothing he could do.

then theres the Evan bourne type wrestlers who are very entertaining in ring and then given nothing to run with and so diappear (although wasnt PED involved as well?)

Don't you dare speak bad of Sexual Chocolate.

Pretty sure Evan about was drugged off his head and I think bigger than him!

I use him as an example (and mentioned the PED-performing enhanced drugs) because Justin Gabriel is another, very entertaining in the ring but not booked with any gimmick or story to even get him on the fans side.

Yeah sure, it's harsh on the invidual but thats the risk that you take. There's nothing anyone can do about it really.

Being given a crap gimmick isn't always the end of your career, just ask the Ringmaster and Rocky Maivia, but eventually those guys got a chance and their talent shone through.

Some, probably a lot of guys don't even get the chance to shine. Harsh, but again thats WWE, just how it is.

You're at the mercy of the booking crew and management.

But i think with guys like Cabana, Gabriel and other lower card guys.

If management thought they had the potential to make money from them they'd do something about it.

But like i said earlier, having decent technical athletic matches doesn't draw money in WWE. And those guys have shown nothing to suggest they have the charisma or marketabilty if given the right gimmick to change that.

Sure, they definatly could try a lot more with a lot of lower card guys but they don't, which is their choice and the wrestlers know that.

Who management thinks they can make money from is an awful lot different to who they actually do make money from. For example, the planned Batista/Orton main event at Wrestlemania ended up including Daniel Bryan because of his immense popularity despite not looking anything like a top star (and certainly not being booked like one).

Ironically though, a lot of their top stars were never the biggest of men. They were just never given the push they needed to become THE guy.

Obviously it doesn't always work like that, they give pushes to complete wastes of time, they don't give pushes to decent guys because of numerous reasons.

But there's a reason Batista got a push and Justin Gabriel didn't. And its got nothing to do with the fact Gabriel can do some flashy moves off the top rope.

Wrestling is not a fair business. It will use you, chew you up and spit you out when it'd done with you. I say well done to Punk for making what he could and getting out when he'd had enough.

That is true. Probably has something to do with Batista being like 6'6 and 20 odd stone of outrageous muscle. And being good friends with Triple H.

3 most important things you need to get a push in WWE:

1) the look
2) know the right people
3) kiss arse

3 least important:

1) ability
2) charisma
3) ability not to kill your colleagues (not literally)

Not really.

Ability to do what? 450s off the top rope or make people pay money to watch you?

Charisma and look will generally go together, plenty of people will have the look but only a few have charisma so having the look will get the ball rolling but having charisma will let you run with it.

And kissing ass? Sometimes it will help but with the wrestling business being what it is kissing ass will sometimes see you laughed out the door.

WWE live in a vacuum where normal rules don't apply. Generally you'll make it if they think they can make money from you. Other things sometimes come into play but thats always been the main thing and always will be.
