Yes mate, I can see it was their plane all along I just think it's an incredibly stupid plan of Vince Russo levels of booking.

It might bump the ratings for a single show but it will serverly damage interest from casual fans in most PPV's. Now they (WWE management) don't care as much about PPV's anymore because as @Tubey pointed out they dont rely on them for revenue anymore but this is a massively short sighted policy because the network bubble will eventually burst and when it does casual fans won't be interested in paying to watch what they can see for free on RAW or Smackdown. It's happend with Nitro and it will happen here, it will just take much longer to have an effect now then it did back in the day with WCW.
The best way they can build ratings is real long-term strategy and planning and to not be distraught by a few bad ratings. Giving away PPV standard matchs on a weekly show is hardly ever a good thing to do in the long-term.

And it's not surprise that both ratings and PPV buys have been going down hill for a good decade plus since the bubble burst with that buissneess model.

They're hardly a struggling company teetering on the edge though are they? Sure, they're not doing as well as they have in previous years but they obviously do well enough that they see no need to radically change their business model or booking procedures.
I believe they see PPVs now as just a continuation of the weekly tv shows due to how the business has evolved over the years. Like i said, they've been giving away PPV calibre matches on free tv for 20 years, we're never going back to the old way of doing things before that.
Not that i don't wish they would change things, ie that booking and storytelling, it is frustratingly annoying a lot of the time but i don't think that's gonna happen till things get a lot lot worse in terms of declining ratings and profits.

Good post mate, i dont necessarily agree with everything you've said but you make some good points.
No they're not struggling yet but they will be twenty years from now if they don't start make changes asap. Punk summed it up very well years ago saying Vince is a millionaire who should be a billionaire and he isn't because he surrounds himself with nonsensical glad handed yes man who tell him everything he wants to hear. They have no competition yet their ratings are getting worse and worse, once lots of the older fans finally give up on them (and they will in the end) it will go finally hit home.
I think they view PPV'S the same way mate as glorified monthly specials and that's horrible for the buissneess long-term. When I say long-term I don't mean a few years, I mean twenty years from now the buissneess will be severely damaged (possibly irrevocably) with this buissneess model. It's one thing to give away PPV standard matchs on tv every now and again but to use a MITB match on free tv will damage that concept big time. They don't have to go back to the real old school method of booking and I'm not sure I'd want them to but just taking a step back would be a good start. They won't at any rate.
I'm hoping the eventual retirement of Vince will start an improvement the buissneess so badly needs. Unfortunately with Vince being a workaholic and a control freak that won't happen until he passes away so I expect things to get even worse before they can begin to get better.

Just heard Vince Russia's reaction to his "controversial" Alixa Bliss comnents. I never, ever thought I'd end up defending Vince Russo on anything but he's spot on here. So much nonsense about a throwaway comment, totally pathetic. If people want to attack Vince Russo they've got loads of material to work with but what a pathetic fuss only nothing this whole thing was/is.

It was nothing mate, Alixa Bliss was using the kendo stick on Bayley and Russo made a jokey comment online saying something like "I wish she'd spank me with those kendo sticks!" and Twitter exploded on him. He got called a pedo and everything, totally needles and unjustified reaction. she's a professional "sports entertainer" and a fully grown woman of 25 and extremely attractive, Russo is was just talking like a normal guy and made a politically incorrect joke. Seems you can't say or do anything in this PC world without taking a ridiculous backlash. I can't stand the guy but it was just ludicrous the levels of criticism he took.

Just sounds like a load of rubbish about nothing really. Obviously you do get a load of creepy weirdo wrestling fans on the internet who were probably desperate to white knight for Alexa in the hope she'd sleep with them, and Russo 99% of the time posts absolute rubbish.

Every interview Corrnette makes is a work, his legit heat with Russo has taken a life of its own a Corrnette is running with it and laughing at the reactions he gets. It's all a work really but Russo takes it seriously, admittedly Corrnette is ridiculously OOT but his shoots are hilarious as a rule.
Thats exactly what it is mate. Weirdos and marks freaking out over nothing but it goes to far sometimes. He had to shut down his Twitter page (so something good came out if it!) to stop some of the abuse. As I said I hate the guy and think he's been poison to the buissneess but the whole thing was just stupid.
