Btw, rumors of this 'bad eating, life style' thing about gibson is false. If it was true he would be getting fined every week because of it. The club set them a set diet and they get weighed every weak and tested. It wouldn't be allowed. He may have a beer once in a while but making him out to be this slob type character is extremely stupid.

He was overweight when he first arrived, but lost nearly a stone and a half and is in pretty good shape.

The injuries will always happen, it's a reason why we got him so cheap. We've just got to learn how to handle them better.

There's a reason why he gets so many injuries though surely.

Because his body is just built that way. He's probably fitter than he's ever been. But some athletes just pick up injuries consistantly. There isn't much they can do about it.

I mean, there must be a reason though, it intrigues me how some people are more susceptible than others.

I'd imagine once they work it out they will be able to do something about it.

Surely drinking and a poor diet doesn't help, if you are already known to have injury issues, wouldn't you try everything in your power to decrease the chances? Not a dig at Gibson, just random musings.

Everybody's body is different, some people get niggling injuries, some people never get injured at all. Not much else to it mate.

Drinking and a poor diet wouldn't help, no. But to assume he's drinking and having a poor diet.. would be quite stupid. They're pretty much told what to eat. If people go over a certain weight or if they are found to be drinking (to a standard where it would effect your fitness at the club) you are fined. We have it written into players contract, if they go over a certain weight or if they do anything to cause potential risk to themselves i.e drinking, smoking, all the stuff that would effect their abilities they get fined. Andy Van der Meyde ended up paying more to the club than we paid him in wages!

So long story short. It'd be pretty much impossible for these stories of him 'LIKING HIS ALE ND FAGS M8' to be true.

Yeah I get all that (I've played sport at a semi professional level), it's always puzzled me how some are more likely than others, like, there actually has to be a scientific reason. I know I would get injured more often when I put weight on (knee and groin injuries), but as you say, he is surrounded by dieticians etc.

Strangely enough some footballers who have amazing talent [like owen hargreaves] just aren't built to be athletes. Although they have all the ability in the world their body cant actually cope with basically the athletic side to it. As you said there must be and is a scientific reason for it. Sure people in the know could tell us.

This is why we need another calm accurate passer with range adding to the midfield. Gibbo is hugely influential with the martinez way of playing. specially with the 3 at the back scenario.

We're already cutting into our depth with injuries and the season hasn't even started.

Awesome.

Don't forget that the players only arrived back from the states on Friday, traveling Eastward (worse for jetlag).
We should have been clobbered.
Every one of the players should have been awful.
Yet we won.
And some of the players even played very well.
So all is good.

Jesus... it'd be like when we played Chelsea at home last season with Osman and Hitz in the centre *shudders

Although to be fair we had a really good go that game and were unfortunate to lose.

Why say "shudders" then?

Like you my memory of that game is we gave as good as we got against a decent team. I'm sure we(Jelly?) hit the woodwork a number of times. It was an open attacking game in my opinion - so on the basis of that Osman and Hitz weren't a bad pairing were they?!?
