Pfffttt.... End of the day all he's done is stick 2 fingers up at Rodgers and refused to take a lesser role in the team for less money for 1 year.... His ego would never allow it when he can go America for another big payday.... It's spitting on the club that made him a multi millionaire for a few extra dollars in the bank, if he truly loved that club he would have ended his playing days there... Simple as.
If he truly loves the club he would walk away as soon as he knows his best days are over and allow someone else to flourish.

The Steven Gerrard Tribute newspaper has the ordinary Echo as a supplement today. Funny in there how the Anfield cognoscenti of days past have differing opinions on the aim of their icon. Phil Thompson his ex manager : "He was like a man possessed when he put that red shirt on, but it was never personal, it was always about the team and the club...." Rafael Benitez his ex manager : " After the Champions League Final in Istanbul, Steven told us 'make me the best midfielder in the world'....." Judging by the cobweb screen of false modesty hes put up around this announcement supposedly wanting to do it now to save all the speculation clouding the RS's remaining season, hes pulled out all the stops to ensure that from now till then, its very much all about him.

Fair play to Sky Sports News they've shown his slip and fans brining his shirt as much as his goals against West Ham and Olympiacos.

What I like is the fact that had he gone a couple of years ago the RS would have got a massive fee for him, but they didn't and he stayed to slip and tear their hearts out. Nice one Stevie, we love you for that alone..........

RAWK...."Stevie had an amount he wanted, the club offered a different amount, they were probably so far apart he had no choice. He has a family to look after and needs to earn a decent wage before he hangs up his boots."

He has a family to look after. Those poor kids are going hungry and have no shoes to wear. The £100M+ he's already squeezed out of football supporters isn't enough and he needs another £20-40M just to get by............

Oh god, they're a different breed aren't they? He would undoubtedly get a job as a pundit if he wants one (just because he's ex RS). The fee from the major international finals alone would be more than enough to support his family.

He's a greedy little fkwit who hasn't performed for about 6 seasons but wants to rape his beloved club for £5m a year and they paint him as a victim.

Who are these people?

They're not well in the head mate.

The worst thing for me is the talk about him being a great centre midfielder - a position he never had the discipline or nous to play.

He was a brilliant attacking force under Benitez, first on the right wing and then behind Torres, but once his legs started to go he essentially became David Beckham without the stamina.

Much like with Beckham, our clueless sports writers spent years desperately trying to find a new role for him to stay relevant in (going down eerily similar routes with the 'Quarter-Beck'/'English Pirlo' nonsense), which only goes to show why this country is so far behind when it comes to recognising and developing talent beyond players that are either the biggest lad in Year 9 or can strike a ball from distance.

Honestly, he isn't even the best I've seen play for Liverpool, so I don't know why their actual fans are so adamant about it. Torres, Suarez and Alonso were all far better, and I'd be tempted to put Fowler and Owen ahead of him too.
