Wasn't that was Real wished to do originally with Morata? But ended up keeping him.

They have to keep him for a year if they buy him back, or there is a big financial penalty

I suppose it makes sense from a financial perspective.

From memory it's quite a complicated agreement. IIRC the agreed price at end of year 2 is 12m euros. But Barca can't sell him on for 12 months and even then we get a cut of any profit they make on the fee. Given that his worth is probably no more than £15m anyway, I don't think there's enough profit in it for Barca to make it a worthwhile exercise for them.

Given his continued inconsistency and apparent lack of fitness, I can't see them wanting him to be part of their squad. You never know though, if he does well at Milan then that may all change. We all know the lad has bundles of talent so it isn't impossible, just unlikely.

Its all well and good being strong when up against a bit of rope attached to a machine.....but put him against a big snarling centre back and the kid melts.

Think it was 9m euros after year 1 (i.e last summer) and 12m euros this summer. After that the clause lapses.

I'm not very good at posting links Eggs but if you google it there is a good article on 442 that quotes Martinez on the subject.

The player cannot be bought back in January, nor could Barcelona swoop for Deulofeu simply to sell him on immediately for a profit.

"They can't do that," he explained at a news conference. "There are certain things in the deal. They can't take him back in the winter so they can't take him back in January. It can only be at the end of the season. It is €9m for the first year and €12m in the second year.

"If they take him back they can't sell him for a season, so he has to stay in the first-team squad for a season. At the end of that if they decide to sell him we have got first rights of getting him back or we have got a big percentage of that deal.
