Gerard Deulofeu

I dont think he has had enough of a run of games to get himself into proper form under Koeman. alot of that being because we overspent on Bolasie so the manager has to justify the fee by playing him (wrong attitude imo)

The Manager spent weeks bigging Deulofeu up when he got the job - his lack of game time isnt because we paid £23m for Bolasie. Its because Deulofeu cant seem to grasp what is expected of him, and this is no different. Emery had none of it at Sevilla, clearly Koeman isnt having any of it here.

Bolasie plays ahead of him because he is a much better player. I still think we might try and get the 4m back in January if we get any takers.

I don't have a particular issue against Bolasie, some of his performances against us have been great and he has shown some decent moves in a blue shirt (his break at the weekend before he tripped over his own feet was excellent). I hope he recovers quickly from his ligament damage and he seems like a genuinely nice guy.

But even with the five years age difference think Deulofeu on his day completely eclipses him in ball control, vision and pace. Neither are particularly good at the defensive side, about the only thing I can see Bolasie has on his side is physicality.

What makes you say he is the better player? Not trying to be arl arse, just genuinely interested in the difference in opinion ;)

How's it LL?

I get very frustrated with Bolasie, I find him to be very similar to McGeady, but with an extra element of physicality to him.
With him out of the team Geri will get his chance, but he needs to do more than he has in recent performances.
He has the ability and age on his side, now it's down to him to take that spot and turn it into his own.

Deulofeu is so incredibly limited in what he can do. Completely one footed with a decent cross and above average pace. Teams are finding it easier and easier to defend him because they only have to worry about him trying to get to the end line.

For me he's always been a one trick pony and hasn't developed in the 3 years he's been here.

His fitness is atrocious still...and I hate the way he cries foul every time he loses the ball because he simply didn't beat his man.

Paper lungs has the potential to be a very, very good player, I have my doubts whether he will ever be more than a potentially good player.

He should get a run in the side now, its up to him to grab it.

this is the thing that does frustrate me with Del, he'll never cut inside the box, always just goes right to the endline. needs to start going left at least occasionally to keep the defense honest

Good thanks Kiwi - and you?

Tbh I think wingers are put on this earth to tantalise and frustrate!

Apart from the early season Deulofeu certainly hasn't performed his best, he does seem a bit of a confidence player and he hasn't really hit a purple patch. It is a bit of a concern I have with Koeman about the whole squad, he doesn't seem to inspire in any of them so far that belief that they are better than the opposition and Gerard is at his best with that cocky arrogance. Hopefully he will seize his chance.
