Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Fingers crossed but at the end of the day this is a perfect example of how this loan malarkey that a lot of people here seem to think is an acceptable way of managing the clubs fortunes leaves matters at least partially out our hands

Loan are part of the game in 2013 you dinosaur.

Would you have rathered we didn't have him at all?

Loans are part - but only part - of the game yes - but unfortunately they look like almost our entire strategy ATM.

They're no more part of our strategy than they've been for years lad.

It's just that we've got some bloody good ones this season.

If they'd have been on the fringes of the first team & a bit gash, you'd have not piped up about them.

The fact that they've been great & had a real impact somehow makes them "our entire strategy".

They are if the strategy is to be in the top 6 - without them we'd be 9th and treading water.

The loans are good players but McCarthy aside the permanent signings have been a waste of time.

This is true, we've used loans to cover up our lack of squad/money for years. Ranging in quality from Jo and Straq, to Arteta, Donovan, Pienaar and Fernandez to the mentalness of Drenthe, we have used loans extensively for years and its not done us any harm.

??

Barry is boss I agree, he is in his final year of his contract and we'll probably get him on a free in the summer.

Even though Lukaku is boss, everyone in the team is chipping in with goals.

Deulefou is boss but we have had Mirallas all along regardless.

Factually accurate, but I'm looking at this season in particular, and I see a very different league picture without Lukaku and Gerard.

You're looking for an angle from which to be negative about something that is an obvious positive.

If it wasn't Deulofeu & Lukaku, it'd had been someone else in their place & there's no way of saying that we'd have been better or worse.

Some Evertonians are seemingly only happy when they're on a downer......

The other thing about the previous loans is that we have always had the opportunity to sign these players (maybe not Donovan??) and we've either done that (Pienaar, Arteta) or sent them packing (Manny, Jo, Straq, Drenthe)

We have no hope of signing either Lukaku or Deulofeu.

You mean Jelavic and Naismith instead - **** me we'd be worrying about a relegation battle not whether we can get into the CL.

True, but we will probably get Deulofeu on loan again next year.

The places we gain in the table thanks to these two, hopefully European places, attracts better players that we can get with TV money in the summer.

Chin up, it's not all doom and gloom!

Those players were available for loan because they were either damaged goods & no-one would take them on a perm.

We've taken players this season who are out of our range (even if they were available) as their clubs want them to develop further before being used by them (same as we've done farming out 8 of ours this season) We're not at the top of the food chain anymore ffs, Martinez has been really canny & used the loan system to enhance the 1st team, rather than merely bulk out the squad - as Moyes did.
