Actually turns out to be something totally harmless...

Look, everyone makes mistakes, but has become a race to the bottom now where everything is viewed with suspicion and people assume the worst of other people. It's not the way for society to progress.

It was a week after the confederate flag was banned and less than 24 hours after protestors were waving the flag outside Talladega and flying planes with 'defund nascar' over the track... so I think its fair enough that most people assumed the worst, especially given the sports long history of racism. Having said that it's pretty bizarre that no one in his team or NASCAR realised what it was before calling in the FBI and reporting it.

Ironically actual racists are now all over the story abusing the driver in question even though it was discovered and reported after he had left the track.

"Actual" racists? Is he getting abuse because of his skin colour? Or because of his pessimistic view of other people has led to a genuine honest mistake so it would only be fair for him to say as such? He should just say "I made a mistake, jumped to conclusion, and I realize in hindsight that nobody is out to get me."

"Actual" racists?

Yes

Is he getting abuse because of his skin colour?

Yes

He should just say "I made a mistake, jumped to conclusion, and I realize in hindsight that nobody is out to get me."

He neither made a mistake or jumped to a conclusion

Or because of his pessimistic view of other people has led to a genuine honest mistake so it would only be fair for him to say as such?

His pessimistic view ? I've already told you that he wasn't even at the track when it was discovered and he wasn't the one who reported it. If your own team and NASCAR tell you someone has put a noose in your garage then you'd tend to believe them...

This is the sad part of it, people actively looking for offence. Probably not in this case, but it seems to be the way we are going.....

Bruce Springsteen:

"I think any time there is a 50-foot Black Lives Matter sign leading to the White House, that’s a good sign. And the demonstrations have been white people and black people and brown people gathering together in the enraged name of love. That’s a good sign."

This comment is however questionable.

However, Wallace said the image he saw of "what was hanging in my garage is not a garage pull."

"It was a noose," he told CNN.

"Whether tied in 2019 or whatever, it was a noose. So, it wasn't directed at me but somebody tied a noose. That's what I'm saying."

A misinterpretation is someone actively looking for offence?

Odd thing to say, 'this is the sad part' then 'probably not in this case' then 'seems to be the way we are going' you can't even hold on to your own argument for two sentences and suggests it might be you looking for the offence or potential for outrage here

Nice.

Pete, the sad part isn’t people looking for offence. It’s those refusing that something may be offensive when others tell them that it is.

The man claimed that someone had recently put up a noose in the garage. He involved the Police and even the FBI. The ‘noose’ turned out to be a garage door pull, which had been there since last October.....what would you call it....

Given the circumstances do you think he was unreasonable? Finding a noise in the only black nascar driver’s garage the week that the confederate flag is banned?

do you think it was unreasonable to report it for further investigation? Or do you think he was best to leave it just in case he was wrong?

It wasn’t a noose, it was a door pull that had been there since last year.....
